Cactus Pryor is still alive. I think it was his brother, whose name i can't remember, who was such a great pa announcer for UT for many years. The brother passed away a few years ago I think.
That would be Charlie Pryor.

No - Wally Pryor. Been going to UT games since before I turned 1.
Which one is Cactus' twin?

I know Wally is Cactus' brother. Not sure if they are twins.

Announcers should announce
Cheerleaders should cheer
Bands should play music

I don't like being told when to yell
I don't like electronics blasting out Krappie music
I don't like to be told I going to get the bird from one of our "sponsors"

I'd like the announcer to tell me what happened on the play correctly
I'd like to hear the band
I'd like to hear and see the cheerleaders

I want a Collegiate Experience not a WWF action overload.

Thank you for letting me vent

The term Public Address means he is addressing and proividing information to the PUBLIC, including the other team's fans, the neutral observers and everybody in the stadium who bought a ticket. it is classless and an insult to assume all those people want to hear the pa act as a chearleader. Gee, maybe that's why so many of em stay away from smu games in droves!

its not play-by-play, its not chearleading, those jobs belong to other people. its supposed to be info provided so everybody in the stadium can better enjoy the game. blue hair, baloney. its not even up to high school, its just dumb.

Wow. You must be right. All of those people have ESP and knew that we were going to have this new "classless" PA guy, so they didn't bother coming to the game. Next argument please.

I liked the guy. He got the crowd pumped up and into the game.

SMU needs to do anything it can to get the atmosphere loud and fun. With only 22,000 fans to work with, Ford can be a morgue at times.

I think it is a good step to bring some excitement to the game.

It didn't. This guy is an "SMU person" and he should know better - he should also know the difference in an Extra Point and a Field Goal. The "hill" thing drove me NUTS. It's been The Hilltop since 1911. His incessant talking was irritating.

I can live with a cheerleader PA announcer, I just want him to be a GOOD cheerleader PA announcer.

If he's going to present himself as a crazed SMU football fan, he should know two things: Football and SMU.

No more references to "The Hill." No more getting basic football info wrong.

As long as we're struggling to fill the stadium, we're going to have to live with desperate measures such as the screaming PA guy. But there are people who are talented enough to keep up with the game, who know SMU's traditions and can pull off the crazy-whacky announcer act. If this guy can't get it down by the TCU game, let's find someone who can.

I don't like being told when to yell either, but look around you at the game, most people need to be told.

This guy has my full support.
At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.

His "long 7" or "short 5" had us all looking at each other. Just go with the 2nd and 8 or 3rd and 4.

You get the announcer you deserve.

I can not compete with the sound systema and all the electronic noise and advertising that is constantly happenin.g

If the band was allowed to play I might be able to clap to Peruna

True, how much money did the plumbing place pay? They must have run 10 spots during the game.

Actually, the sad thing is I don't even remember the name of the plumbing company now, but it certainly made me need to go onesies everytime I heard the ad.
