Cowboys, and Rangers I know have great big lots right next to the stadium for parking. Anyone can drive up to either venue the first time and park with no problem. That is not true with us. I agree that we have parking and areas are available if the patron knows where to go. But we need to educate.

Those venues seat far more people than Ford Stadium.

If just one person comes to the game he needs to know where to park. Why is everyone against getting word out to the Dallas community how to enjoy a game day at SMU?

This ^^^ Look, those of us who have been at this a while know the area, the campus, and that it is easy to find places to park, eat, drink and get to the game. Let's not assume that just because we've figured it out that a person who has never set foot on campus before is going to know where to go, how much parking costs and where, our lovely new "clear bag policy" crap, etc. This isn't about excuses; it's about making the information as accessible as humanly possible. Really not that hard.

So what is your solution? A giant flashing arrow pointing towards SMU? If someone wants to go to the game then there is plenty of available and easily identifiable parking options. Its not like they are trying to park in the middle of Manhattan. Good grief.

The high schools that play at Ford like in the playoffs seem to find their way to the stadium ok...or do they?

I agree with you, and I think the information is pretty accessible. That said, people keep coming back to it as a problem which means it's either a lame-ass excuse (like when the nimrod at Rally House said the lack of SMU gear was due to "licensing issues"), or for some reason we're not doing enough to publish information in a way that folks who don't come to campus on a regular basis see it. Like I said before, the smumustangs.com/gameday site has just about everything you need to know to get to campus, park there, get tickets, etc. Problem is, it's not very prominent (it's a link on the top banner of the main website that you'd miss if you weren't looking for it) and they don't put it out there as much as they should (social media, etc.). Advertise the games on TV, radio, etc., refer people to that URL for info, blast it out on FB, Twitter, etc.; make it so hard to miss that it becomes easy to dismiss people who keep making this claim as simply making excuses. Again, it ain't hard and we've done most of the work; we just need to make sure everyone knows about it.

The problem is SMU sucks and people don't like the product they have seen for the last 30 or so years. The alumni are apathetic and tired of the boy who cried wolf bs that SMU throws out every time they hire a new coach "(Insert coach) will take us to the promise land" story is getting old and people are tired. As far as parking mrydel I am not against making it known...how do we do it? Do we just add more people directing traffic to tell ppl where to park or more signs? I'm open to bringing more ppl in. But its really about the product. People will find parking for moody and there is a waiting line for it.

SMU owns some of the best real estate in Dallas at Mockingbird and 75. We need to erect a very high triangular video board with a Times Square bravado advertising SMU events. Make it huge, with live video. Anything is better than what we have now.

The sheer excitement of a full house!

Postby mrydel » Thu Aug 27, 2015 12:06 pm

I am just saying make the information available, and make sure the general public knows where to look. There are a few people in Dallas that did not attend SMU. I am in Arkansas. I do not know what is being done. It may well be that word is being spread by every means possible. I do not know. If it is, I am happy.

Being a small stadium is a plus.

I have posted before that I can almost never give away some pretty good tickets to non SMU/ casual college fans in the Dallas area. They definitely worry about parking, are generally unfamiliar with the Park Cities, and they hate 11:00 a.m. kickoffs. They also tend to support either UT or A&M and would rather stay home for those TV games. As far as SMU alums are concerned, Ford doesnt have nearly as many yard line seats in the West stands to satisfy their desires as Texas Stadium or the Cotton Bowl.

this entire post is filled with excuses. Not enough yard line seats? Then why not buy up the east side? It's usually sparsely attended in conference. Damn sure there are tons of nice seats left there. Parking? It's easier to park there than for any other sports event in the entire town (TCU, Cowboy$, Mav$, Ranger$)! Moody, Airline, Law, Ownby, Fondren, VS and Umphrey, the church, Meadows, DART station....cheap excuse. 11 am kickoffs? Not happening this year. They are just being nice telling you that instead of "your team sucks dude and I don't want to go".

Don't jump on me. I'm buying up seats that go un-used to help the program. I'm just repeating what Ive been told. And yes, I fully understand that people don't want to spend their day watching a team ranked 107 playing James Madison. As far as yard line seats, I am talking about the ones in the sun on the East side. They simply aren't the best seats and many SMU alums don't want second rate seats. As far as parking is concerned, i have reserved parking and I don't really know how difficult it is for other people. I just know that a lot of people haven't been to our campus and are concerned about that issue. I'm not saying its a justifiable concern. I'm glad that our games are starting later and I hope that it helps attendance.
