@PatrickEngel_ 6m6 minutes ago #SMU QB Ben Hicks: What we put on film just wasn’t good. We’re all hurt and disappointed.
More Hicks: “I thought I made some good reads. But once again I made some mistakes that made me look like an idiot out there.”
Hicks on #SMU’s team meetings yesterday: It was pretty intense. If you got called out, you better have a good practice today.

Seemed to lose it in the air near front corner of endzone -but he's caught a lot worse throws before. It was thrown in an area where DB couldn't reach it too. Hicks' Achilles Heel is that he sails passes too high 2-3 times a game but Morris said that on one of his interceptions the receiver ran the wrong route-same thing happened against Liberty I believe. He won't start in 2017 if he can't control those 2-3 sail balls every game
The Hicks and Morris apologist
Wait .... what? Stallion has ruffled his share of feathers on this board over the years, but if there's one thing that can be said about him, it's that he has never sugarcoated anything or apologized for anyone/anything. All of us sometimes disagree with him, but one thing he isn't is an apologist.

Defense was totally uninspired to stop Temple. The offense was as bad as anything during the Caven era. Special teams were special in their ability to screw up.
That was a team that was desperate to show it could play well below expectations.
I know injuries have destroyed much of this team but injuries don't destroy effort. There just wasn't the effort shown by the players in general. The receivers dropped too many balls. O line was a sieve. The D front 7 was blown off the ball too many times.
I was very disappointed and for the first time in a very long time mad at the Ponies.
The effort was almost non-existent. Watching the team on the sideline told me a lot. I saw numerous plays where tackles/blocks could have been made with any effort and guys let a nudge or something of no significance take them out of the play. I'm worried that I saw a mental attitude that we've seen in the past and that's the worst part of it. I really thought we were past that with this regime.
The easy excuse 2 years ago was June Jones, and his lack of caring, and lack of community outreach, and lack of relationships with Texas coaches, and his crappy players, and his bad culture, and his lack of hitting in practice, etc. etc. 2+ full years later, with a roster that includes 83 out of 111 (75%) guys that he is personally responsible for bringing on board, 2+ years of preaching the Morris way,........and his best answer after laying an embarrassing egg is....'it's not my responsibility to motivate them.' Bad answer. It's your team now coach. It IS your responsibility. At this point he's way more Texas salesman, than program savior.
Can someone verify this number? 2 signing classes = 50 max. Another 33 walk-on's & transfers-in???

Uninformed posters that don't know what they talking about count walkons because they would have to know something about the team to figure out who the scholarship players are. There are only 85 scholarships available. We are playing 12 true freshman, 13 redshirt/medical freshman and 4 first year upperclass transfers. 29 first year players is all you really need to know. I think about 34+ of his recruits (plus about 6 more non-scholarship players have seen action)-but the vast majority are freshman eligibility wise. Make no mistake there are guys redshirting right now that could help this team-he just doesn't want to use them. There are several I wish were out there right now

Sorry MadforChad.....actually upon further review it's 78 of 111, so ONLY 70% of the roster was brought on since Chad's arrival. Look down the roster, easy to verify. Stallion will try to divert and deflect, and get mad, because that's what he does. Don't fall for it.

Gary Hammond threw an 81 yard pass for the St. Louis Cardinals in 1974. So technically that makes five NFL quarterbacks.
Pretty funny that 2 of the QBs listed are considered other schools' NFL QBs, not ours & Hammond was clearly not a QB. Since we are including transfers, Richard Bartel should be added to your list, and while he never did play a down, GGilbert does have a SB ring. I also thought Mike Ford played for Tampa Bay. I do remember watching Bartel's coming out party against LA Tech and thinking he had a future as our QB. Bottom line, SMU has had only 1 true NFL QB, but he was an amazing ambassador for our school. Couldn't ask for a better QB than Dandy Don Meredith.

Oh, and not to forget Jim Bob Taylor. Frankly, right now I'd settle for a QB like Lance (if he had an OL to match), or a Ramon Flanigan clone, or the next Cam Newton, or ....... OK, I guess I might as well buy a Powerball ticket.

Cheap shots at the Coach on other threads are truly pathetic. Yes, our lack of talent is showing up big time, but let's be fair. We are fortunate to have the caliber coaching staff we have to take on our many challenges. No, results are not before us yet, but the right things are being done across the board. SMU's fan base is thin enough, don't bail out.

To be complete, Jim Bob was thrown into the '79 season after Mike Ford was injured against TCU. Jim Bob suffered from the same problem Hicks suffers from and that is replacing an injured starter QB early in the season and a decimated offensive line. Yes, in '79 the O line was so thin we had undersized walk ons playing #2 at tackle and guard for the last 2 games of the season. Not to mention undersized scholarship O linemen playing as well. Jim Bob wasn't the starter against A$M but was thrown into the game after the starter went out for the season with a dislocated shoulder on yes, a pass play with poor protection. Jim Bob was a true sophomore in '79 so similar in age to Hicks. There is a pattern going back a whole generation of poor QBs with poor offensive lines. The FBI would call that a clue.

Good memory, SoCal — played for Tampa Bay and Cincinnati.

Im glad to see some post showing support for Chad. SMU has the right guy. SMU would be hard pressed to find a Coach that will put the time, energy,& passion into fixing this that Chad will. Matt Davis getting injured really hurt. I do believe Ben Hicks will be ok with time. I had the fortune of interviewing and hiring Chad a long time ago. There is no doubt he will turn SMU around! Give him time. LOCK ARMS ALL IN!

Chad is right on track with the total rebuild-there are about 3 posters that don't know what they are talking about and 1 that has a long standing vendetta against Morris because his son wasn't good enough to play at SMU. SMU's nucleus in the Freshman and sophomore classes are turning this thing around. Until 2017 we are going to have to listen to their crap. They won't be around after that. I predicted 4 wins with Davis at QB and Xavier at RB and 3 starting offensive line starters who have been hurt-most SMU fans picked between 3-5 wins so I don't know where the big disappointment or surprise is coming from. If you told me before the season that 40% of SMU offensive starters would be hurt by Game 4 then most would have predicted no more than 3 wins. SMU's defense is making some major strides in comparison to last year with 15 true and redshirt freshman. That nucleus will transform the defense when they are 3-4 year lettermen. Seen these cards play out many times-fully confident
