The fallout begins?Moderators: PonyPride, SmooPower I just want to make sure I understand the contention here:
Is it being argued that there will be a statistically significant increase in the number of players transfering out this off season? Otherwise isn't it just post-hoc, ergo propter hoc? I know, why don't we try some Pre-Hoc arguing! Corey Slater left the team because Bennett was going to get fired! Same with Reggie Carrington! Wow, this is easy. -CoS
No, Corey Slater left because he knew he would never get to play. Smart move on his part. Reggie left because he is a quitter! The other player know when changes are made, changer will be made. Some of them want to stay ahead of the game.
OK, so even you can understand JT. Players know when a new coach comes in there will be changes, some that some of them will not like and cannot live up to, so they will leave.

Have you been doing this?
justin willis, apparently ![]()
Dude, look up. You see that? You know what that is? It's the [deleted] point going right over your head as usual lol. -CoS
I just wish we could get rid of the "we suck, we'll always suck, it'll never change crowd" at the same time we part ways with Phil Bennett. If these people really believe the crap they write, they why do they even bother?
Team Orsini is going to shut their pie-holes! C-ya @ Milos!
Agree but would include Ford and Hunt to name a few along with Team Orsini.
I agree. Firing Phil, as much as I hate to say it, was the first positive thing to happen to this program since we got our 6th win last year. Things are moving in the right direction for a change. Geaux MUSTANGS! Geaux Tigers!
Every chance I get brother!

I think we have the players in place to turn the program around, just not the coaches. The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting differant results, and that's exactly what the coaching staff has done!
From short yardage plays just to gain 1 yard where we just run right up the middle with no imaginative playcalling (I guess Bennett and Burns never watch the pros and saw Brady's playfake then toss to Vrabel, a play even the pro defenses can't defend even though they are aware of it, just once I would like to see Willis pass to Chase!) We also use the same defensive players and the same gameplans though it obviously wasn't working, then look at what happened at Tulsa when the coaches were FORCED to play differant players due to injuries, and we got the best results of the season. I think the coaches have been part stubborn, and part clueless, and a new coach with a real understanding of football and how the game is played can change this program around in little time. Granted, we won't compete with Top 25 teams in the next few years, but we can darn sure compete in Conf USA.
Another poster comparing us to an actual football team. Stop making comparisons. We can't block and tackle, so we have to do things people think are crazy. One yard, we should be able to do whatever, but we can't! TU sucked, they were at home and sucked. C'mon man, get real!
SMU is an actual football team that in my opinion has had [deleted] poor coaching and playcalling, and teaching kids to block and tackle is part of COACHING!!! Yes, Tulsa didn't play their best game, they pretty much have been crap since the 3rd quarter of the OU game, but Yengi, Leonard, and a few others showed me something that makes me excited to see what they will do in the future. And who knows, maybe the new HC will actually have a dedicated QB coach to help our young "franchise" QB develop into something really special, instead of the OC taking on duel roles which pretty much meant JW didn't get any help at all. And what's more ridiculous is one of the guys that helped develop Farve's at Southern Miss is on the friggin' coaching staff!! Most coaches would think that would be an assett, but Bennett kept him at WR coach. Like I put in my original post, the coaching staff was stubborn and didn't even try new things until they were forced too by injuries. And Bennett was loyal to his buddies, Burns and Gush, to a fault and stuck by them instead of trying to change things. But since you seem to know it all Bigdaddy, if SMU gets a first rate coach and doesn't go to a bowl next year with basically the same players as they have this year, I'll be the first one to tell you that you were right! But I don't think I'll have to......
