I did not read all of the pages on this thread, but let me offer this. Most Tech fans are great folks. The kind you would have as friends. Where things really get crossed are with the Leach era students (grads from the past 6-8 years + current students). What all the causes to this hostile mindset are... probably too complex and numerous to eleborate on at this time.

I have been to numerous game at Tech. Mostly sat with Tech friends in sections with normal working professionals. No problems whatsoever.

Last two games, was close to the student sections. Horrible experience. The four letter words were so numerous that you would think they must have training classes for this behavior. I was with Tech friends at these games as well and they were horrified at their own students/young alums behavior. One former player at Tech almost got into it with a couple of their students.

This summer, I was in Lubbock playing golf (Rawls course) with a couple of ex Tech fb players. I was the guest of a long time friend who nows holds a lofty position at Tech (there for 3 years now). After golf, this fan issue came up. My friend who is now a Tech employee stated that he was embarrased at some of the behavior that was reported to the Tech administration. He is the one who stated that most of the unruly behavior hit it's peak in the Leach era. Ex Raider fb player stated that he and his wife had decided a few years ago to not attend any Tech game unless they were invited to sit in a box. They could not take the language and hostility.

I have no idea if anything has been done about it but my friend (employee) said that this was an issue he personally was going to see that the administration got their hands on. I will see him this weekend and find out.

Would like to hear next week about the experience you had if you go to the game.

Nicley done and very professional by you. The problem we had with RedRaider who sent the original info was that he VERY quickly turned into an Ahole with his comments about SMU and Dallas. What did he expect coming on here when PonyFans are geared up for a game in Lubbock against his team....we are amped up and have no love lost for the Red Raiders....he should have posted his info and left..I think he was waiting for some heartfelt 'attaboys' and they didn't come...and he was offended....

Agree Mrydel. Pigs let the air out of all 4 tires.
However, Ohio State could be the worst I've ever seen. And, my
family (wifes) have been 60 year season tix holders.
The way they treated ut fans was beyond imagination.

My son in law is a UT ex and went to the UT/Ohio State game there. His stories were astounding. Said they felt lucky to get out alive although he did admit to a little provocation.

Whoa- as a youngster I had gone to over 12 OSU-Mich games at both Columbus and Ann Arbor and never saw anything like what you alude to. Buckeye fans are rabid enthusiasts and supporters of their team but not antagonistic to the opponents fans unless given a reason to be so. Knowing the attitude and arrogance of the whorns fans I can understand why they may not have been treated with 'kid gloves'. OSU prefers to play real college teams- not central Texas professionals.

GO PONIES!!!

not all of the Tech people who posted were trying to be rude.... I genuinely was trying to help.
Seriously, I know that there are more bad apples than we would like to admit, but I hope that you all have an amazing time this weekend & enjoy the newly renovated Overton part of town & the expanded stadium.

The problem is alcohol - some fans can handle it and some fans seem to not be able to...especially those with inferiority complexes (TTU and Ohio State come to mind).

The previous post that said TTU was more or less on par admission-wise with UT and A&M was waaaaaaay wrong. The stats don't lie - go take a quick look at the Princeton review - they publish average SAT scores and other incoming student information. TTU is similar to UH - and that ain't good. They are the worst in the state. I'm not kidding. Its not good. Please dont make me go look it up - just for your own pride take my word for it and drop that one.

And for those that are not familiar with the distinction - Tier 1 status is a measure of cummulative research money spent at a university - it is not at all the same thing as quality.

Oh - and we are better looking. All of us.

Thanks, redraidersweetheart. Alcohol and age are
a bad combo sometimes.

Re: OSU. Bro-in-law has missed maybe 8 games in the
horseshoe over past 30 +/- years. He said OSU fans acted
out of character. So bad he apologized to Tsippers for
Buckeye fans behavior. Said you sensed something was brewing
all week based on the tone of sports talk shows, newspaper and tv
reports.

It's great to be a die-hard fan for your school. While I don't get to the SMU games as often as I'd like to, there probably isn't a bigger Mustang fan around. I think the bottom line is that fans, like players, like to do some pregame trash talking but it needs to stop there. I absolutely HATE ut and pretty much everything that stands for it, but I have never returned the obscenities to their section of the band that comes around pregame and stops in front of us shouting Beat the hell out of SMU because I am better than that. I love the game of football--high school and college--and for me, people who act like idiots, aren't there b/c they love the game but rather to cause trouble. I agree that SMU fans represent with class and that is really clear when surrounded by classless individuals. It's a shame for the schools that have that kind of representation because it doesn't make them look good at all. Now, with all that said----------

The booing during Varsity was pretty low. Although a senior citizen from Tech turned around and apologized to us for the situation.

I think the heat made all thet drunk students pass out.....

Also the fact that we answered twice from a 21 point incident helped the situation.
