you're opinion about global warming really doesn't mean jack. man is largely responsible and really it is too late anyway. hopefully scientists will help us out of this catastrophe.
Oh that hurts you big meanie. And your source, wikipedia, impeccable. I told you it was debatable, at least we agree that man, for the first time, has contributed.
That article footnotes to legitimate articles and sources. What is striking me about your argument is that you clearly believe in evolution (science), but reject that man is the leading contributor in global warming (science). In other words, you approve of science, but only when it does not contradict your conservative views.

Not really, I am just willing to admit that I don't really know for sure, that I believe that the phenomenon is cyclic, and that I think the overlay of man's contribution, while obvious, and perhps even significant, tends to be overblown for political rather than scientific reasons. And if you've followed my posts at all the in past, you know the irony you speak with by espousing my "conservative views." My views have always been moderate, and tolerant of others'.

As far as global warming goes, read Richard Muller's excellent treatment of the topic in Physics for Future Presidents. It's an excellent, apolitical overview of the topic. (He agrees that global warming is probably -- but not necessarily -- at least partially human caused).
The science is not a slam dunk.

Are we really having this conversation on a football message board?
Topics on a sports board should have the same rules as a bar. No religion. No politics.

So global warming is the cause for the fall of the Big 12?

Let's see when I was growing up we were talking about the next ice age in school. Then there was the depletion of the Ozone layer which would cause the polar caps to melt and now its greenhouse gasses like carbon dioxide which naturally exists in this planet and man is to blame. How man is to blame depends on which scientist you talk to. (1) Deforestation. (2) Factory and Car emissions (not sure how CO turns to CO2, but I didn't take Dr. Jesky's class). (3) My theory. Beer. Man drinks beer, beer comes from grains which are cut-down thus depriving the world of more plant life to photosynthesize CO2 to O2 and causing man to emit methane gas which is a carbon based gas. You could add beans to the list, too. And because the average age of the world is going up and the population is growing more people are drinking beer. So, if we stop drinking beer we can save the planet.

Yes, we wouldn't want an actually substantive discussion to break out.

Please, professor, explain dinosaurs and the indisputable fossil record? Is this simply a trick by your God? If you avoid this question, you show cowardice in your faith.

In fairness to him, he was talking about warming, not evolution.

If he is arguing that religion should penetrate the classroom in all areas, then the subject of evolution is germane.

Agreed, but the quote you pulled was from a post about warming. And I don't think he's saying that religion should penetrate the classroom in all areas. Computer science? Engineering? I mean people have individual beliefs in all walks of life, but you can't have religion in the classroom in ALL areas of education.

That's right, jt. Thank you.
Look, to address Samarai, I am arguing two things:
1) Belief in God isn't automatically anti-reason. See Pascal.
2) Education isn't about presenting the answers. It's about presenting the questions and all reasonable alternatives to answering those questions.
To exclude 2000 years of Western thinkers from the conversation because we're now so damned smart and have all the answers is ignorance defined.

Religion is as irrelevant to science as it is to engineering.
