Posted this earlier, but as the day has gone on, the parallels to the chatter around LB's potential hire as bball coach are so similar to the whining about Mack it is unreal.
It certainly would be the splash hire, as the rumors are being picked up by radio and TV around town.

Peruna Punch is the Rich Gosselin of SMU. Doesn't understand college football-would rather post 10 articles a week about the SMU players in the NFL. He compares Brown to Switzer with the Dallas Cowboys because he thinks NFL

I still don't see the comparison.

At the end both of them were national punchlines but Mack built Bevo into a national power before that happened. Switzer was just a publicity stunt, a symbol of Jerry Jones' megalomania.

Let's see. Mack Brown inherits a Texas program mired in mediocrity in the late 90's, immediately wins and starts recruiting at an unprecedented level, goes on to win 10 games a year for more than a decade, wins a national title, goes to another national title game, two conference titles, and 4 BCS bowl wins......and somehow that is in any way a correlation to Barry Switzer with the Cowboys?!

Please tell me you're not allowed to operate heavy machinery.

I think some of you guys are insane. Mack would be a great hire...sure he isn't a long-term fix but he can right the ship. The next hire is either one of his assistants (he could build a great staff) or someone ready to take over an improving team.
Mack provides the following:
Instant credibility.
He can recruit.
He can raise money and get alums/former players on board.
He knows TX.
The media focus on SMU would be incredible.

If he faxes a resume, go ahead and hire him. (after a background check) Any hire is a crapshoot.

I do think Mack at UT and Barry at OU are comparable - unbelievable recruiters and sometimes questionable gameday coaches.

I think what he meant was that Mac Brown is to UT what Barrie Switzer is to the Cowboys.

Reed, you're the rare example of a wise frog, and you always have been on PFs. 8) this is spot on.

He can recruit. This would be a nice addition to our program.

He knows Texas and is well-liked by Texas high school coaches.

Barry Switzer as College Coach:
157–29–4 (.837)

Assuming he couldn't "coach his way out of a paper-sack"-focus on the qualities that made him such a successful NCAA coach. Those are the type of qualities that SMU needs to at least consider

Who cares if Mack is a long term hire? We don't need a long term hire, we need someone to fix this.
June SHOULDN'T have been a long term hire, if he was a short term hire, we'd be winning still. If he would have left when ASU came calling, recruiting wouldn't have gone away, the circle of champions would have tasted victory and would have gotten another great hire.

And if it isn't Mack, give me someone who want to use us for a stepping stone! We should kill for that, it means they did their job and WON. They deserve to move on and go to a P5 school. They have proven themselves and to the next coach that you can win here.

No kidding. The guy is beloved in the high school coaching community in Texas and would immediately give us credibility with schools that as of now don't even remember the last time they saw an SMU coach recruiting at their schools.
