My only problem is I heard all of the same compliments about Bennett....You can't deny Bennett was young at the time, energetic, touted as a defensive guru, had Texas roots, all the Texas high school coaches were on board etc.......and by the way, I've heard everyone talk up the influence of the high school coach on the recruit's decision before and disagree. I acknowledge the influence is their but believe it's minimal. My only hope is that Chad has abilities in the area of talent evaluation and is able to zero on finding the diamonds in the rough.....
Phil Bennett was a quality assistant coach but had never even interviewed for a D1A head coaching position. Morris has been linked with almost every big job that has come down the line the last several years. Not to mention offensive innovation is what sells these days. Morris is light years ahead of Phil Bennett at this point of his career. Phil also was hamstrung by our stupid academic restrictions. June was the first coach to operate without one hand tied behind his back by the university. Had PB had that opportunity he might still be roaming our sidelines.
You're right that CM has been "linked with almost every big job that has come down the line the last several years," but why did he strike out on all of them? Whatever, his being an East Texas native and a former HS coach here should do the trick for him. At least I hope so.
