Sonny Dykes to TCU??Moderators: PonyPride, SmooPower Re: Sonny Dykes to TCU??So there aren't any concrete facility upgrades that Sonny is holding out for?
Looking back, the hoops reseat occurred two years after Larry abruptly left. His heir apparent took over and did really well at the beginning. 30-5 and NCAA tournament appearance in 2016-17 when the reseat was being researched. Fans even seemed hopeful in this post until it was actually implemented and priced many fans out of their seats: viewtopic.php?f=3&t=85056 SMU tried to monetize the enthusiasm but the success didn't last as the team went 17-16 in 2017-18. Shake Milton (preseason POY) missed eleven games and Semi and Sterling Brown were drafted. Things are finally looking up this year. Beat Cinci!
Re: Sonny Dykes to TCU??The timing of this news coming out could not be worse.

Re: Sonny Dykes to TCU??Again, I just can’t think of a really good reason for him to leave here to go THERE! I hope he wants to stay & continue growing our program.
Re: Sonny Dykes to TCU??If he left to go there, he would drive a stake in the heart of every relationship he has forged over the past 4 years.
If he does leave for TCU, it means that he believes there is no chance SMU will ever get a bid to a power conference. That said, anyone who claims to have knowledge is kidding themselves. Even if he is willing to consider TCU as a job, those negotiations haven't even started yet.
Re: Sonny Dykes to TCU??
Hope it's not true, but money could be why. Seems to be a hard bargaining issue to ignore. SMU's first president, Robert S. Hyer, selected Harvard Crimson and Yale Blue as SMU's colors to symbolize SMU's high academic standards. We are one of the few Universities to have school colors with real meaning...and we just blow them off.
Re: Sonny Dykes to TCU??I really don't get it. I can understand taking an offer for a name brand team, but TCU is the second worst team in the worst P5 conference and no one outside of Texas and the football world has even heard of them. Sonny could probably elevate them to the top of the Big XII but it is equally likely that the conference itself will implode. Maybe he hopes to walk the line of getting the last championship then hightailing it out of there like Cal Hockley. I don't see him as that crafty though.
Re: Sonny Dykes to TCU??Rumblings up in Waco is that he took the job. 3 coaches said no....to include Kellen Moore. Sonny was the 4th and said yes. News is supposed to break Monday or Tuesday. All hearsay.
SMU took a chance on me. I'll never turn my back on it.
Re: Sonny Dykes to TCU??This would be a huge blow to the program.
If he leaves, we'll drop the Peruna Poison curse on him like we did on Chad Morris. Look where that got him!
Re: Sonny Dykes to TCU??
Another coach comes and goes without finishing the job. Total crap.
Re: Sonny Dykes to TCU??Sonny has done some great things for the program, but he hasn’t proved much yet. Since Chad came, we have made it easy for coaches to accumulate wins by having easy non-conference schedules. Sonny has done a good job getting transfers, but the program is strong enough to do well without him.
Re: Sonny Dykes to TCU??I say just leave him in Cincy.
Re: Sonny Dykes to TCU??If I was the AD at TCU, I would be having second thoughts right now
