Garden variety a**h***s are fine because that just kind of goes with the territory when it comes to successful coaches. It's all about boundaries.

No to coaches who say they followed SMU as their favorite team in the 80s :!: :!:
Interview B.S. from Chad & Sonny.

Especially NO to those who say they wanted to go to a SMU game for their birthday :!: :!:
I bet you were heartbroken when Leach did his magic.

Of course exceptions granted to SMU graduate former players.

Its almost laughable now to think of Dykes spewing this to the media. What a joke. Seriously
doubt the guy was an SMU fan at all. Hindsight is 20/20 and I must admit I bought into this line though not from Chad as I knew he was a fake from the outset.

Looking forward to trouncing on TCU in the future. Its likely our new coach will have a handle on
N.I.L such that we continue to recruit well in this area. Not exactly rocket science. Dykes may have been crafty in utilizing this route if only b/c he saw it coming and was prepared. Other programs have adapted at this stage. Samples is very important. Retaining him should be priority no 1. Hope he does not jump to tc Who?

I think Sanders would be a great fit at SMU especially if we retain Samples. Definitely opposed
to Leavitt simply b/c he is a Defensive minded coach. SMU is the type of program that will
always have to focus on offensive production because the type of athlete required for
a stout intimidating defense is not available to us recruiting wise.

My first vote would have been to keep Sonny, but with the regular November swoon (especially on the road), and our not great record against teams with winning records, maybe moving on actually gives us a chance to improve further.

I've been of the opinion that better recruiting (Samples) and S&C (Kazadi) have had more to do with our success than actual coaching. Yes, I know Sonny is/was responsible for assembling the staff, but still.......

Whatever happens, I hope we are able to continue to elevate the program and hopefully be affiliated with a more prestigious conference in the not too distant future.

He is a naturally good recruiter and has had success at Jackson State (currently 10-1 and atop their division). I know he might be loud and over the top but we need someone like that. I am so tired of seeing our team come out completely flat in big games. Just needs to higher solid coordinators and I think he can really take SMU to the next level.

Do you have something to say about that idea or no?

I assume the 'not too distant future' is referring to decades and not years. with a rebuild etc we won't be getting much consideration to move up for a long time.

Tony Elliot. Let's try a Clemson OC one more time. This one might actually work out.

As I mentioned before - will we go for a proven top ten winner or a k-mart second class nothing? sounds like we are going for the latter if we go with lashlee.

Don’t know how he’d be as an administrator and leader (HC), but he was great here as an OC.

Lashlee has clearly proven himself as an OC who seems to be ready to move up. A higher tier G5 school is maybe slightly ambitious but not ridiculous. I couldn't find any dirt on him so that's a plus. If he is Dykes-level successful he will stay for four years and move on. If not he will stay for four years and get fired.

Are there any candidates with real SMU ties?

Rhett recruited Preston Stone and would be great at developing him.

Lashlee is a self-professed Christian and I only state that to say he has high morals so hopefully there is no ‘dirt on him’. While not necessarily completely correlated, I believe is a good guy in general.
