Start with The Spirit Shop in Ford Stadium. If Bob Sharp doesn't have it then I'd suggest going over to McCartney's on Hillcrest Avenue (new location!) or some of the other shops on 'the drag'. I saw one - believe it or not - in Houston not long ago but - for the life of me - I can't remember where!

The SMU bookstore on Mockingbird has some also I think.

Thats where I have gotten everything that I have from. Personally I perfer the book store.

When you start out on the journey to find SMU items it can sometimes be frustrating.

Almost every school has more items availabe in stores and on the internet than SMU. Maybe one day when we have some winning seasons this will change.

I was at Oshman's in Frisco last weekend, they had an entire t-shirt rack with TCU stuff......not a single SMU shirt.

The two best places to start are Bob Sharp's "SMU Spirit Shop" at Ford Stadium and the SMU Bookstore at 3060 Mockingbird Lane, which is operated by Barnes and Noble Booksellers. The SMU bookstore had some nice quality SMU flags in different sizes available last season. Also Bob Sharp at the SMU Spirit Shop can sometimes special order SMU items for you.

Another resource is www.Google.com, just do a search of what you are looking for. There are some companies on the internet that offer SMU flags and banners. Try www.collegeflagsandbanners.com , I think they have an SMU flag available. You also may try http://www.ideaspot.net/flags/WAC/small/small.html

Good luck and let me know if you have trouble finding what you want.....I have done my share of searching for SMU stuff.

Bob Sharep told me this morning that the Spirit Shop will have a new shipment of great car flags, home banners and flags for actual flag poles within the next two weeks.

Get your items from the Spirit Shop as it helps athletics and University more. Will be a nice touch.

One of the reasons that it is so frustrating and difficult to find SMU items outside of the university area (Hillcrest Ave., Mockingbird Lane) is because the administration will not release licensing of SMU logos - such as the running Mustang, the letters SMU, the school seal, etc. - to the public. All this does is hurt SMU's PR because there are plenty of merchants out there who would sell SMU products thereby increasing SMU's image in Dallas and elsewhere...the merchants just can't get the approval from the SMU administration. Perhaps it's time we start a letter writing campaign...?

I assume the Spirit Shop owners pay rent for their spaces in Ford Stadium and in Moody Coliseum. As far as helping athletics and the university, how does that happen? Do they also kick a percentage of sales revenues over to the athletic department?

So a DFW sporting good store has nothing SMU-related. Yet over the weekend, I stopped into a gas station in Hillsboro (less than 30 minutes from Baylor) and found four different SMU hats and a do-rag with "SMU" and "Mustangs" all over it.

I wonder if there is some type of "safe zone" where only stores a certain distance from SMU can sell SMU stuff so to protect the stores near campus from having any competition on certain items like t-shirts/hats within the Dallas market?

I know I was at Just For Feet on Central/Park Lane and FootLocker at NorthPark about a year ago and they both had TCU, UTEP and other schools but nothing SMU.

Dont believe it?......Next time you are in a mall......go in FootLocker, go in Champs, go in Oshmans, go in most stores and you will TCU, Baylor, Tech, and even UTEP stuff at least 5 times as much as SMU. Usually you will see no SMU stuff available at all.

They did have some SMU hats in a "hats only" store near the food court in Valley View Mall this past weekend...I was shocked......so maybe things are changing.

That 'hats only' store is called Lids (or at least it is in Houston...may go by a different name in the D-FW area) and, yes, they carry SMU hats.

Wouldn't it be great if the reason they didn't have any SMU stuff is because they were SOLD OUT OF THEM????

Anything from this decade? Or stuff so old it looks like it fell off a NASCAR souvenier stand? Whatever - it's good to know some store owners know about SMU. Those that don't should be prohibited from selling it when we're winning and they then want to cash in.
