Surprise players?

Postby DallasDiehard » Sun Aug 15, 2004 10:11 pm

For those who have seen practice and/or last night's scrimmage, who will step up and surprise this year? Not an Adami-type who's locked in for playing time .... a new guy.

My votes:
WR Cortley Blackmon (if he can shed redshirt)
LB/DE Cory Muse
CB Brandon Jones
Rise up, Mustang Nation!
Go SMU!

Martin Guidry and Randy Denman. Both played great in the spring.

Adami and Karrington have said that Mouton is the real deal. He also could be a pleasant addition.

I'm looking for some offensive playmakers to step up. How about Devin Lowery or Jessie Henderson? We need some guys who can turn short passes into big plays. Blake Warren's punt returns last year were a pleasant surprise. And, yes...it would be nice to find someone who can rush the passer. Can Cory Muse be that guy this year? Kind of like Don Ieremia-Stansbury surprised a lot of people two years ago.

Needless to say, that's a GREAT report. Thanks, hpfan. You just can't have too many "real deal" guys inside, huh? Big, athletic - he should be a great addition.

My surprise players: Ryan Kennedy and Don Ieremia-Stansbury, who will re-emerge now that he's back at LB.

By the way, I also heard that Peveto and Boren have come lightyears in their conditioning work since this time a year ago. They were strong when they showed up, but now they're much more athletic and have better stamina, which should help them in their first year in the lineup.

I think Charleston Pony's right that Cory Muse has to be a pass-rush force for us. All the rumors from practice suggest that he has the ability to do just that.

Does Foy Munlin count, since he's a new guy?
