CUSA Title Game

Postby Stallion » Fri Aug 20, 2004 11:20 am

can't believe no one has mentioned that CUSA Presidents approved a Conference Title game to be played at a home rather than neutral sight. I think this will prove to be the correct decision when you consider the size of many of the schools in CUSA and the distance for even the mid-size schools. The one possible acceptable alternative was New Orleans which might be able to attract a decent crowd from both schools.

It will be interesting to see how the western half of CUSA does against the eastern half. It's basically the SWClight against CUSAlight.

this is absolutely the right way for CUSA to go. It worked well for the MAC and the only problem could be if a team leases a stadium (Tulane?) and has a conflict with the schedule, but for a conference whose members struggle to fill their own stadiums, playing at a neutral site would have been a big mistake. Assuming the game will be nationally televised, it's important for the conference's imagee to have a packed house of enthusiastic fans. I expect praqctically any member of the new CUSA will be able to deliver a packed house if they get to host this game.

Prediction: SMU will host this game in 2010. Bank on it!

I'd love it! :D But I think we'll need a little time to adjust to the CUSA and get our feet firmly planted in the conference competition.

Thumbs down to a championship game played in a cavernous, empty Superdome. Maybe they can have it in New Orleans if it's at Tad Gormley Stadium, then maybe they'll have at least a 3/4 full stadium.

Not only that but New Orleans has the NO Bowl two weeks later. That might bother their sponsors. My guess is that the only real possibility would be Dallas and that was too remote.

Las Vegas: What happens here, stays here! Maybe that's why.
