Calvin Watkins is reporting that Romo will be the backup and Eckert #3. Also, Bennett will hold Avery Cleveland out of practice until his hamstring is completely healed.

You probably also noticed that TCU got three times as much press as SMU in our home town rag. They are claiming that TCU has a RB duo that may be as good as The Pony Express was. Ha! When they beat Texas, come talk to us about their "Froggie Express."

it's looking like the 2-deep may not be set until the night before the opener! Let's hope that means there is great competition at every position, rather than our not having enough guys the coaches are comfortable with playing. OL depth and RB (if Munlin can't go) look like they could be a problem.

Speaking of Munlin, does anyone have an update on him at practice this week (post-car-wreck)?

Don't stop with TCU, PK, did you see how much press UT and the other Big 12 schools got? Aren't you upset about that? They are not home town schools.

Get real. The DMN serves a helluva lot more alums of non-SMU schools than otherwise. They are in the business of selling papers, and I don't fault them for their focus because of these circumstances. As for the TCU disparity, I suspect there is a lot more of interest to write about a team that has gone bowling for five or six straight years, than a team that is likely to set its all-time winless streak within a month. Again, just circumstances--if TCU's and SMU's fates were reversed, I suspect the SMU write-up would been about three times longer than TCU's.

I learned to live with that situation (big xii, etc.) a long time ago. The fact that we aren't doing as well as TCU right now is no excuse to give them more space. There are not any more TCU alums in Dallas to buy the rag than SMU alums. Besides, most people who read the DMN subscribe to the paper on a daily basis regardless what's inside. With a win over the froggies this year that excuse will go away.

They should change the name to the Texas Morning News then.

More importantly, can someone break down the 2-deep on the OL? I foresee a lot of youth there. But at least they young pups are bigger and stronger than in the past. If they come together and open some running lanes and keep the QBs alive, Coach Vinklarek might be our MVP this year.

I'll give you that--I subscribe and I don't expect much in the way of SMU coverage, so I'm not disappointed in what's there.

Speaking of, when my folks moved last month I found a copy I'd saved of the front and sports sections of the 1/2/83 DMN. Talk about SMU coverage. They are yellowing but I think I might get them shadow-box mounted anyway. Anybody know a place that does a decent job but not too expensive?
