Any news regarding walk-ons who may be able to make a contribution? Specifically, kickers/kick-off specialists who can consisitently put the ball in the end zone and bc\\ack up punters.

Well, Coach Tubbs son is walking on though not at those positions.

He just got a mention in the paper a couple of days ago, no details.

Anyone know what kind of player he was in high school? Since his dad is a staff member, I assume that means he's in school for free. Could it be that we stumbled upon a scholarship-caliber player without spending a 'ship? Good scholarship management, if so.

several walk-ons have been mentioned as guys who might contribute this year. Anyone know whether any of these guys might have camped at SMU in hopes of getting scholarship offers? Just wondering how many might have been encouraged to walk-on with hopes of earning scholarships currently occupied by guys that may not be renewed next year.

Good point. Every time the coaches talk about their camps, the comments usually include a mention of the fact that "once we get them on campus (for camp), we have a chance to get them." If that means we land some of our scholarship guys out of those camps AND we get some walk-ons, those camps will be even more important than ever in helping get the team on the winning track.

I don't have the specific numbers (size, speed, strength, etc.), but Coach Tubb's son is an absolute monster. He's built like King Kong! I'll work on getting more info.

I don't think anybody has mentioned it specifically yet but Saturday's paper indicated that freshman, walk-on Landon Dyer was running second string at MLB. Is that by merit, injury or demotion? With all of the moves I'm not sure who the back-up MLB- Stansbury or Hall? I almost mentioned this kid in my report of the last scrimmage but since he was such an unknown I didn't. But he did make two straight eye-opening plays in the second half. On the first one he chased down the QB floating to the left sideline showing good speed. On the very next play he made a nice play on the right sideline. I wouldn't be surprised if this kids has excellent speed for a little guy-who knows maybe he can be a Swann type-but its pretty shocking he's running 2nd string. What's the story?

I was told today, that the coaches have been pleased with Zack, but Landon has played very well! Coach Tubb's son, has been impresive as well.

Merit. Dyer is short (5-11), but ridiculously strong (he already benches close to 400). He was a tackle machine in HS, and seems to have carried that over, at least so far. I would assume that his size and the fact that Bangs is a 2A high school account for the fact that he wasn't more heavily recruited. I also have heard that the coaches like ZHall, but this Dyer guy is just making plays all over the place.

Dyer is listed at second string behind D.D. Lee, followed by Hall. But I would assume all three will get on the field. Ieremia-Stansbury is starting on the outside, opposite Rico Harris.

I'm serious, watch practice and look for him in the games. When the players get out of the pile after a tackle, see if #57 isn't at the bottom of the pile more often than not. It's amazing to watch.
