QB article in the DMN

Postby ClassOf81 » Tue Aug 31, 2004 10:02 am

Did yall read the article in the paper today about the QBs? Good story by Calvin. Certainly sounds like we have more talent and depth than ever before at the spot. I feel much better about the position than I ever have. Looking forward to having Phillips, Eckert and Romo prove me right. If you haven't read it yet, check the link on the PF.com homepage.

I agree it is a good article, but it comes on the same day that TCU once again dominates the front page of the Dallas Morning News sports section. It makes you want to cancel your subscription.

Not a bad idea. I know some PonyFans already have. I've given it some thought, myself.

The article about TCU on the front page of the sports section should make SMU fans/alumni want the same thing from SMU - positive press! It would be nice if the following things could be said about SMU - top 25 finishes 3 out of 4 years, six straight bowl games, increase in attendance of 8K over 2002 to 36K, freshman applications at an all time high. Instead we get the same old reprint of a quote from Bennett, "I will go down in history as the only coach to lose one to a rock band and another to Ernst & Young."

DMN readers don't want feel good stories in the sports page, they want to read about winners - and at the moment, that is what TCU is and SMU is not. Hopefully, SMU will have some positive things happen on the field this season that will warrant front page articles.

I have to admit that I wish we would run our program (save the move to the Mountain West) like they run theirs.

I am also hoping a much improved performance on the field will change what appears (or doesn't appear) in the press.
