SMU, A&M agree to three-game series
Mustangs head to College Station in 2005
DALLAS (SMU) - SMU has signed an agreement with Texas A&M for a three-game football series beginning with the 2005 season.
The series will begin when SMU travels to College Station for a game on Sept. 17, 2005, and will also include games for the 2011 and 2012 campaigns. The Mustangs will again travel south in 2011 before A&M visits Gerald J. Ford Stadium in Dallas in 2012.
â€We’re very excited to add an old regional rival like Texas A&M to our schedule,†said SMU Athletic Director Jim Copeland. “Along with our move to Conference USA next season, this game is just another step towards our goal of providing a challenging, fan-friendly schedule.â€
SMU will open its 2004 season Saturday, Sept. 4, when SMU hosts another old Southwest Conference rival, Texas Tech, at 7 p.m. in Ford Stadium. For tickets, call the SMU Ticket Office at 214-SMU-GAME.

They were so lucky the last two times they played us. I still have nightmares of Crossland missing that 35 yd. FG in the Alamodome.
If memory serves correct, we played them close at their place too.
Good work for getting them on our schedule.

This is fantastic to have A&M back on the schedule. First of all, it's a guaranteed sellout. And I wonder what the payout is for going down there?
And of course, we can always use it as a recruiting tool ("Aggies didn't offer you? Come play for us and show them how they messed up by scoring a few TDs on them!") Of course, by then there will be kids signing with A&M only because they didn't get that SMU offer they were hoping for!
Always good to re-establish old rivalries. Just don't let Albert "Offensive Pass Interference" Connell in the building.

Ditto on the BC game, Bubba.
Possum on a gum bush!!! 5 (count 'em, FIVE!) old SWC rivals on the schedule next year. Hard not to like that.

I am really surprised about the scheduling on this deal. I had been told by a number of people that aTm wanted a regular game in Dallas for recruiting purposes. This deal certainly does not address that need.

By 2011, after we have won our third straight national championship, everyone is going to want a shot at beating SMU and ending their 49 game winning streak. A&M is justing getting their foot in the door a little earlier.

A&M has been the biggest [deleted] with regards to playing old SWC foes. Aside from former SWC rivals in the Big XII South, I can't think of a single time AGgy has scheduled Rice, TCU, SMU or Coog-ah. Sure, they played (and beat) TCU in the Houston Bowl a few years back(which tells you a lot about how good the TCU Hornfrogs are...getting beat by the lowly AGgy

)
Regardless, its good to see familar faces back on the schedule, even if it's a DECADE from NOW! JEEEEZUS.

If we could pull off an upset of the Aggies, that would go lightyears toward changing the balance of power in the state when it comes to recruiting. I'm not betting the mortgage on it, but I'll always be hopeful and supportive.
