If you are indeed the Michael Bowen of the '89 team, you provided what still is the best hightlight of the post DP era. That TD from Romo to you with no time left to beat UConn made my college career. I was there in the Mustang Band, and still think of the 'good ole days' often.
Agreed, I'm in the band now, and you may be pleased to know we show a video of the 'miracle on mockingbird' to the freshman every year during their orientation. I get chills watching it every time.
From high on the hilltop, in Big D...
That clip truly is an amazing piece of history, Watching it again as an upperclassmen makes even more of an impact. Hope to see everyone at Ford saturday.
Bowen will be back on the hilltop soon!Bo will be there with the 89' crew. I hope to see all the diehard fans that I knew when I was on the hilltop. I have not been to an SMU game since I went to the SMU vs Wyoming game in the late 90's. I am so excited to get to see the Stangs again and be back on the hilltop. I will also be in town for the San Jose State Game and paln to catch up with all at the game.
Go Ponies!!! Bo 17

This tribute to the 1989 team is LONG overdue. What that group of guys did was nothing short of amazing. Every week they were younger and smaller than their opponents, and there were games in which they frankly were overmatched. But I don't remember them ever quitting. Even when on the short end of a lopsided score, that group fought their hearts out. They remain my all-time favorite team.
Here's an idea: take the team photo from that 1989 year and blow it up HUGE. Hang one somewhere in the stadium, and one outside the locker room, so the fans and the players can remember what a remarkable group of Ponies with a single purpose can accomplish. And at the end-of-the-season banquet, there should be a Forrest Gregg Award, for his playing career and for taking on the task of re-starting the program. He doesn't get nearly enough credit for everything he did. His playing career earned much-deserved accolades, but what he did behind the scenes is a major part of the reason we get to watch the Ponies play this afternoon.
Forrest Gregg AwardWhat a great idea. He sure deserves the rcognition. He had the hardest head coaching job in the nation 1989-1990. He was such a great coach and motivator. He really had us believing that we could win every game. Smaller...yes, Outmatched...yes, Slower...Yes, inexperienced...Yes, we were all these things, but we had more heart than anybody we played. The reason why we played with so much heart is because that is what Coach Gregg taught us. He pushed us hard and gave us just the right encouragement and kick in the butt so that we would give everything we had when we were on the field. He had that X factor as a coach...you believed everything he said to be true and you would do whatever he asked of you because you knew if you did what he told you that you would be sucessful.
