Big Horse say's that there will not be any names on the back of the SMU jersey's this year. We will see tonight, and it looks like RED will be the color!!!

I like the no names on the jerseys...like ND and Pitt(?). It's suppose to be a team sport, not a bunch of individuals. It will increase sales for the game programs too.

Maybe there wasn't enough money to pay to put letters on all of those jerseys.

PK, I think you're thinking of Penn State, not Pitt (for the no-name jerseys). Or maybe it's both?

I like no names on jerseys, too. Emphasizes the team instead of the individual. I don't think the Red Sox or Yankees have their names on the backs of home unis. I always thought it was unnecessary and redundant to have numbers AND names. True fans know them by their numbers and don't need to see their names to know who they are.

Yeah, maybe that's the same reason a$m removed theirs as well.

Personally, I like the names on the backs for the following reasons:

First, you don't look like a high school team, or a Div II or III school

Second, and most importantly, we desperately need name recognition in this market. Notre Dame can get away with it because they are the only game in town, and all of their games are on TV. In Dallas, very few football fans outside of the very hard core (like those on this board) know who any of the SMU players are. We need to have non-core fans who show up today walking away talking about Kieschnick, Nnabuife, Desmond Jones, etc, in addition to the few skill position players they might remember like Phillips and Munlin.

We need people going back to the office and talk about these guys by name, not "hey that #62 had a good game for SMU".

You shouldn't have to take names off uniforms to make players act as a team.

You are correct as I figured out later.

From what I have heard from the mothers of the player, it sounds as if it was the players that requested there be no names on the back
