Townsend HargisAny idea why he was wearing #48 yesterday after wearing #70 all year? Is he switching positions?

Re: Townsend HargisHe is at TE now. It is not like we need any depth or size at O-line. Next years O-line looks to be one of the best in SMU history so I guess Hargis isn't needed there anymore and they are stacking the TE position 5 deep.

Re: Townsend HargisI have to set ya'll straight one more time.
Townsend is currently playing TE because they needed him. One of the starting TEs was injured and they have one player they want to redshirt so Townsend was chosen for his talent and his willingness to help the team any way he can. He currently is a blocking TE, but they have been throwing passes to him and he has picked that up quite well. After this season, he will go back to the O-Line to take up the slack when Joey Slaten leaves. They have been grooming Townsend for that slot from the very beginning. If you ask any of the coaches, they can't say enough good things about him. The strenghth coach is extremely pleased with the progress he has made in his size and strength. All the other coaches are fighting over him to play for them. That is why he keeps getting moved. He is sooooo good he can do ANYTHING, except maybe kick!

Re: Townsend HargisThanks for the update, MTSURIM!
Re: Townsend HargisHey, MTSURIM: your boy sounds like he's got a good work ethic and will become a "player" for the Mustangs over the next 3 yrs. Just don't let him get down and discouraged. We've seen too much of that in our post death penalty years. I felt that when we signed Townsend (noting he'd drawn attention from South Carolina and Georgia Tech) that he might be the kind of guy who can someday help this program "turn the corner". Let's just hope we can make that "turn" before he graduates!
Re: Townsend HargisTownsend Hargis got switched because the Offensive line does not need anymore undercized tackles and guards. His move to tightend TRULY MEANS A SIXTH LINEMAN, NOT A RECIEVING THREAT that some unfortunate soles have talked about. We have two pass catching tightends, Hampton and Hrncir. Townsend has not even gotten a rep (reptition) in practice. So for all of you HARGIS FANATICS, he still has NO. 70 tatooed on his back, and that is the most unfortunate thing of all, for now his number is 48.
Re: Townsend HargisI don't have enough finger and toes to count the number of errors in your obviously delerious statement M-MAVERICK. I'm not sure how you figure 6'4 280 to be undersized, but if you were man enough toa take a hit from him, you would know he is in no way UNDERSIZED.
His move to TE is a temporary thing only made because of the injury to Michael. And your statement about him not getting reps in practice is just plain wrong. Maybe you should try to catch one or two of them before shooting off your mouth. As far as the tattoo goes, it is a tribute to his father, not a vanity thing. His dad was 70 through high school and college and he wanted to pay homage to his hero. No matter what number he happens to be wearing, in his heart he will always be a #70 because it represents to him honesty, loyalty, and a work ethic that you could never imagine much less live up to. Now put that in your pipe and smoke it.
Re: Townsend HargisThat story makes me all mawkish and syrupy. But if MTSURIM is 70, then I may transcend into a green-about-the-gills state of mind.
Re: Townsend HargisI could never be 70.....I am a girl.
Re: Townsend HargisNot to mention that #70 was a practice at 2:41 in the afternoon. Not possible for him to be 2 places at once! Can't hit and type at the same time.
Re: Townsend HargisMTSURIM, you are a little too hostile, are you his sister or mom or something because you seem to take offense to everything that is ever said about your boy. And really and truly, 6'4" may seem huge to you but in today's modern realm of college football that is undersized and that has been SMU's problem for many years. The good thing is that with that frame, there is room for more size and that is his potential, and believe me, I can take a hit from him. I like what I hear about your boy but before you start going and making all-american talk about him, let him growup a little more, say next year sounds good.
Re: Townsend HargisI don't recall ever saying anything about All-American. And my relationship to him is inconsequential. The information I posted is factual.
I think that before you make ridiculous statements like "believe me I can take a hit from him" you should have all the correct info, otherwise you sound like a side line know it all who can't be taken seriously. And back to the size issue....he is getting bigger everyday, but even right now he can out block, run, and manouver Sterling who, by your standards, is the thing that is missing from SMU's line. Are you saying that you would prefer a line full of Sterlings, who by the way is currently running scout team, as opposed to a line full of Townsends, who by the way, made it on the travel squad in a year he couldn't even play due to being a redshirt?
Re: Townsend HargisPlayers don't get moved to a back-up role at another position when they are allegedly "dominant" on the o-line. Back-up o-linemen get moved to tightend when they won't be competing for a starting/playing spot on the line.
Now I think that #70 has potential to be a decent player but all that mean is that he hasn't done anything yet!
