To go along with this, here's a link to an article on how even Nev-Reno is getting into the "Network" sports business. Here's part...
WOLF PACK SPORTS NETWORK: The Wolf Pack Sports Network is in its first year of existence. Encompassing radio, TV and website broadcasts, telecasts, video streaming and webcasts of Nevada football and men's basketball as well as marketing opportunities, the Wolf Pack Sports Network looks to expand to women's basketball, baseball and other special events in the coming years. The network is coordinated by Nevada's assistant athletics director/marketing and promotions, Kurt Esser. Serving as the flagship station again is ESPN Radio 630 AM in Reno through Gustin Sports Productions. http://www.collegesports.com/sports/m-f ... 04aek.html
There can be only one...Does anyone remember the days of CNN doing a sports broadcast or even Fox trying their nationwide broadcasts. They all failed.
How about all the different business network shows that all got swallowed up. I used to live on FNN but they are no more as well. Quite simply this is a very narrow market that these 3 groups are appealing to and I think that CSTV is already dead in the water. They don't have the money, the backing, or the teams to back them up. Who wants to see BYU-TCU when I can watch an ACC game on Fox or swing over to ESPN and watch Big Ten(okay so that my not happen in my house) action. Look for one of the big boys to buy up CSTV in short order after it has problems adding viewers and providers and using their games on Wednesday, Thursday, or Friday. Class of '91
it time for that ^%$## lawsuit against the bcs-bs boys!!!!!!!!!!!
WHAT ARE WE WAITING FOR??????!!!!!!!!!!!! LET'S JUST GET TO THE CHASE & END THIS MESS ONCE & FOR ALL & HANG THE BASTARDS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! WHERE ARE OUR LEADERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!??????????????? ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()
Re: There can be only one...
dont you mean CNNfn? i was always a cnbc fan myself though.
Somebody please get Diehard Pony on the horn. Does this mean we get to add Nevada to the ever-growing list of WAC renegades thumbing their nose at ESPN and webcasting their games, along with Hawaii and Rice? The ESPN contract doesn't allow this stuff. Maybe we should do the same thing, and say screw 'em, since everybody else seems to be. ![]()
Knuckle,
It was something that was considered. I think the final clinching point was SMU did not want to suffer through the embarrassment of having to possibly shut the site down. They are particularly sensitive to the fact that video streaming would be a known violation of an existing contract for which Dr. Turner cast a "yes" vote for. Jeff Hurd at the WAC office told me he was fairly confident that none of the conference school presidents had read the contract before it was approved. At the very least I think Karl Benson owed the Presidents an explanation of the negatives, and the arising alternatives. I still have my eye on this whole thing as it is near and dear to my heart, but I am disappointed by the apparent lack of leadership by the non-BCS group. The Justice Department is going to need some push by a number of key people to rule as they should regarding the standard ESPN contract (i.e., that ESPN is a cartel for mid-tier conferences). As a final note, I am going to call Kurt Esser at Nevada and see if video streaming of live games is in the cards. I cannot tell from reading their site. I'm guessing probably not because their local TV contract (which is OK under the ESPN deal) is going to carry 6 games and, apparently, ESPN might include the feeds in their selection of pay-per-view offerings. Getting a local TV contract and then allowing ESPN to carry the games on pay-per-view is a great way to get around the video streaming exclusion. We used to have a local TV contract, but no more. I will report what I find out from Kurt Esser.
Thanks for your efforts, Diehard. Hopefully one day, Mustang football/basketball will be webcast across the globe (when it's not on national TV, that is!). And when it is, we'll have you to thank, again. good work.
