Ponies v Frogs

I was glad to see your boys hang tight with the Raiders. And I was very glad Tech didn't get that last garbage touchdown. Leach is a classless clown.

Looking forward to a good game this weekend. Not sure why the spread is 23-24 points as it seems like a no-brainer to take SMU and the points after last weekend's games. However, everyone I know bet the farm on Houston (-4) against Rice and look what happened. I hope for our sake the Vegas guys know something the rest of us don't! Enjoy your trip to ACS this weekend...hope I can be there myself as I am recovering from nasal surgery.

Can someone give me the quick skinny on how the SMU offense looked? I expect a feisty defense as usual but how did Phillips, Munlin and the rest of the O look. From what little I read and heard the offense had trouble moving the ball against Tech. Correct or no???? Thanks in advance for any info.

Phillips didn't have a great game, but he still made several plays that SMU qbs before him over the last 5 years have been unable to make. He also limited turnovers, despite heavy pressure. I think he gives us a legit chance to compete with TCU for the first time in several years. Munlin didnt have the great game hoped for either. Maybe the adreniline backfired on him, but he had a bad fumble. If his thumb is okay, I look for him to bounce back big in the next few weeks. Our defense was pretty effective, but I think our linebackers were a little shaky the other night, but Tech can do that to you. The problem for us is so can TCU.

I don't know - I would say you all competed with us last year! I am hoping we will remember the close game last year and use it to get up for this game. I expected a tight game last year with us coming off of that huge loss at So Miss - in fact, I would not have been shocked if SMU would have won that game. IMHO, SMU will have to move the ball and score quite a few points if they hope to win. This is the best our offense has looked since at least 2000 and we might be even better since we can throw the ball effectively. Of course, it's a rivalry game so anything can happen, especially if our D continues to look like swiss cheese against the pass.

I also am expecting a very good crowd this weekend so that should make the game even more exciting.

Statistically speaking our offense went from hideous last season to fair. Hopefully we can improve on that this week. I believe we will need to keep TCU in check to have a chance. Something like 24-21.

Given that it was the first game for coach Burns new offense, it really did not look that bad. It would have been nice had the vertical passing game been able to get going. I would expect that the offense will look sharper this week even if TCU's defense plays better than they did last week. No matter what, we have got to get the ball in the endzone more. Hopefully Phillips/Eckert can get the offense going back to where it can score 3+ TD's per game.
