That's what they called on us when we downed our quick kick on TCU's two yard line and then they penalized us 15 yards and we had to kick it over again. The call was an illegal bat. Are they making these things up now, just to keep us down????? Jeez.

I was wondering the same thing, I cannot remember ever seeing such a penalty in all my years of watching/playing football.
Also, I liked the ruling that a fair catch was called for, that was a nice one too.

I thought we played like crap tonite. No doubt about it. But shouldn't there be something to prevent the friggin' ANNOUNCER from pumping up the home team's fans? I got so friggin' tired of hearing that jerk saying "Third down" when it was our ball or their ball! I don't mind hearing "First down!" but that "Third down" to pump up the home team's fans is just a little too much for my tastes. That's what cheerleaders are for.

He kicked the ball almost as the ref was about to pick it up. Stupid play.

We got poundded, no doubt about it. But the zebras had a bad night, too. That "Illegal Bat" call was weak -- at best. And the "fair catch" they claimed Blake Warren called was worse than amateur. The referees had no effect on the outcome of the game, but they should be reprimanded, suspended, fined .... something. Had the team's been more even, that ridiculous fair catch call could have loomed large.
