OSU/SMU Game Observations and Encouragemnt

I watched most of the game last night. Following are some observations form an OSU fan:
1. We have endured many losing seasons, so my empathy is with all of you who support SMU football. SMU is an excellent school, but it is painful to endure the losses you are dealing with on a consistent basis.
2. I believe your team is going to be more competitive than you may think. Even with several of your best players injured for the game, your team played hard and gave good effort. I have seen bad teams before, including some of ours in then early nineties, and even Baylor. In my opinion, you look much better than Baylor, and are much faster than they were two years ago. You are coached very well, but lack the talent and depth to hang with better teams for the whole game.
3. Our team speed is outstnding. On many plays, you had xecuted them well, and due to our very fast secondary, we were able to limit the yardage to 10 yards instead of 30 or 40 yard plays.
4. I have no idea why you kept punting to Darrent Williams. He leads the nation in returns, but no effort was made to kick away from him, or kick the ball out of bounds. That was a huge difference in the game.
5. Romo is very elusive and tricky with ball. I'd play him a bunch. He's not a very good passer, but he can flat run.
6. Keep the turnovers to a minimum, and I believe you will have a good chance to win some games when your players return to the line-up. You could use a better receiver threat, and a better running back, but you have some good talent that can compete in CUSA.
Good luck with your team for the rest of the year.
By the way, your band is very good. For a small group, they put out a great sound.
