According to Bennett's PC, he expects a lot of waggles & bootleg. If SJSU has watched any film, expect to see a race to the corner w/ an option thrown in. If we've got new DE's playing, and our corners are banged up, we could be running from behind around the ends again.

I would assume Rogers and Williams will remain the starters. Shouldn't change anything.

Key to stopping those bootlegs are LBs who can run. We know Rico Harris can run from his days in the secondary, and I gather the McCray kid can run (don't know - this will be my first game of the year.) Melvin Williams and Justin Rogers aren't sprinters, but they can move, too, which they'll have to do Saturday.

Anyone know anything about the accuracy of the San Jose QBs?

As a team:
Passing Efficiency 153.46

I guess they have two QBs with good efficiency.

Holy smokes.
I'm hoping that just means they don't throw much. That's terrific accuracy.

The second QB is a Freshman who is:
17att 6 comp. 0 ints. 131 yards 1 td.
His last game vs. Morgan St. was 3 for 7, 89 yards and a TD.

Dale Rogers has a high completion % no picks and a TD. He did not attempt any passes last season.

If Nnabuife and Harper play, why shouldn't Fitzgerald play OLB so we can utilize his speed?

I agree. The most success we've had defensively this year (and I realize that's damning with faint praise) was when we sat a LB and played a smaller, faster group in a lot of nickel and dime packages. If we don't have enough DBs to do that, wouldn't it make sense to stick Fitzgerald at LB? Team him with Rico and McCray, and you have a pretty fast trio.

And back to the first post in this thread: what exactly is a "waggle"? When I listen to the road games, Craig Swann refers to every pass route as a "drag" route, a "wheel" route or a "waggle" route, and I always assume opponents have more than three routes to run against us.

waggle: qb doesn't stay in the pocket, doesn't exactly go fullblown bootleg...kind of drifts to one side, as best I can describe

Waggle Pass

Postby Boston Pony » Wed Sep 22, 2004 4:18 pm

A drag or waggle is when a receiver drifts across the field going in the opposite direction of the flow of the play. Sometimes it works where the QB drifts and throws back to the receiver off of a bootleg
