Predictions for Saturday

Here are some things I want/expect to see Saturday:

1. Foy Munlin gets untracked, running 18 times for 91 yards and a score.

2. Three FGs from Chris McMurtray, including one of nearly 50 yards.

3. Three QB sacks, two from Justin Rogers.

4. All three QBs play. None reach All-America status based on this game, but none crash and burn, either. Jerad Romo claims starting job after Saturday's game (for next week, anyway).

5. Ryan Kennedy catches 8 passes for over 100 yards and a score; he'll reach the end zone thanks to a hellacious downfield block by Bobby Chase.

6. Devin Lowery will regain his confidence/swagger with 5 catches.

7. Defense will force three SJSU turnovers.

8. Blake Warren won't run one all the way back, but he and Cedrick Dorsey will give us good field position throughout the game.

9. Ponies win, 23-13. After the game, players (A) act like they've been there before, and (B) realize there's still a lot of work to do and refrain from carrying Coach Bennett off the field or giving him the Gatorade shower.

1 OK
2 Why not TDs instead?
3 OK
4 If we are doing well enough to win I do not expect to see 3 QBs.
5 OK
6 That is 13 catches between Kennedy and Lowery!
7 That would be nice. An infinite % increase.
8 Why not? Warren ran one back vs. TCU (called back.)
9 With all this ( 1 - 8 ) going on why not 28-10? And after losing 15 straight I think a Gatorade shower would be called for.

1) I will be extremely intoxicated

2) 3 is the over/under on how many sorority girls I take home

3) I will look damn good on the blvd.

4) My portfolio will increase $3M before weeks end.

These are all predictions that you can count on.

That being said, if Chris Phillips doesn't start and the defense doesn't create any turnovers..........we will lose this game.

#2 - Well yeah, I'd certainly prefer TDs - dozens of them. But I'm not ready to call our offense a well-oiled scoring machine just yet. Thankfully, we have a kicker who's fairly reliable now.

#4 - Good point. I take that one back.

#6 - Hmmm - think I got a little ambitious there?

#7 - From 0 takeaways per game to .75 per .... not enough, but a step in the right direction, to be sure.

#8 - True. There's no reason Warren CAN'T score, but I'm a little leery of suggesting everything can come together in a single game. If some of these others come true, I'll hold off a week on Warren's TD return (which means he'll owe us TWO next week in Boise!)

#9 - Score: I just added up the Ryan/Munlin TDs and the FGs. If they want to throw in some more points, I certainly won't complain. And I have no problem with the players going nuts after the win -- they deserve to -- but the Gatorade should be saved for a coach's first win or some other milestone win (clinching a winning season, beating a main rival, etc.) Coach Bennett has talked about how a lot of these guys won a lot in HS, so they need to act like they expect to win. Celebrate with hugs, high fives, that kind of thing, but save the coach shower for a bigger win. In my opinion ....

I hope I'm wrong, but I have a bad feeling about this. Ponies lose 17-7

If SMU were to lose I would not expect it would be because we only scored 7 but rather that we allowed SJSU to score in the upper 20's and we did not keep up with them (28-21 for example.)

SJSU has shown the ability to give up the big play and turn the ball over. If we can do those things (big plays and take-aways) we will win. If not and we turn the ball over look-out.

Good point - they're always fast.

Prediction #10: Zach Hall will lead the team in tackles this week with 14.

The broad market is down sharply today, with the DJI down over 100 points. Oil shortages and earnings warnings.

There is no way we only score 7 (without serious repercussions)....

I don't think SMU is ready to score over 20 points yet. Final score - SJSU 23 SMU 13

'Stangs prevail, 20-17.

2 FG's from McMurtry.

TDs by Kennedy (from Phillips) and MASSEY, in the 2nd & 3rd quarters, respectively.

Turnovers: SMU 3, SJSU 4.

Bennett takes a bath.

You heard it here first.

SMU will generate turnovers in this game. A healthy Rico Harris and Nnabuife are a big deal. Because of their return, look for a return to the blitzing nickel package we showed against Tech. Fitzgerald will get to play more, and I expect that the linebackers will be Rico and Avery Clevelend over Hall or Stansbury. That gives us a secondary of Jones (if AK is hurt), Humphrey, Fitz, Nnabuife, and Harper.

In base three LB sets, Hall, Stansbury and Rico will be the backers.

The blitzing nickel will generate some turnovers. I think SMU puts SJSU on their heels and wins this game easily.

Chris Phillips will start, and SMU will run the ball a lot more often. Look for a big game for Phillips.

SMU 30, SJSU 7.

Wasn't the defense most effective against TT when we had three CBs in the game? If SJSU uses 3-WR sets, I like our chances with Akinyemi, Humphrey and Jones.

This is one of the 3 I am expecting to win. Its gotta be. With the offensive showing we had so far, my prediction 10-7 SMU.
