game thoughts

some things that impressed me tonight: as a group the receivers were pretty good tonight, especially Foster and Jaymond Cleveland. Not many drops that I remember if any, and we usually have lots. Foy Munlin ran hard. It was nice to see what he could do with a little room to get started. Foy is not a first step guy, he needs a head of steam to be effective. The qbs did well. Chris Phillips would have too if he played. He could have bettered the running output that Romo had, and Romo did a nice job running. On defense I thought the corners went up and competed well for the ball tonight against some fairly big receivers. The one thing I was disappointed with was their qb ran roughshod over us on many plays and punished our tacklers and we didnt create any turnovers again. That is never a good sign. We need more size and speed, that is unmistakable. Good to see a win, everybody needed one like oxygen. The players looked confident on the field and relieved afterwords. That was the best part of the night.

I think the single best thing about this game was CATCHING the ball...which pushed their defense to respect the pass, which allowed our RUN offense to develop (what? pass to set up the run, well, in this case, yes).

There were MANY nice catches. Cortley missed one for a TD, but we ended up scoring a TD anyway (didn't hurt us). But, we need to catch those...

To their QB's credit...that was BUCKY RICHARDSON out there, with a much better arm. I wouldn't get too upset, look at their total stats.

I no longer know how to react to a win. I feel good but not exactly comfortable with it.

We beat a bad team but I would rather beat a bad team than lose to one. That was a big team. Monstrous on the lines. Tyson Thompson isn't the same player he was in HS. They had minimal effectiveness from their passing game. Their QB is a good athlete and runner. I kept wondering how we were going to lose this one. I don't think I could have taken losing this game after we had gone up 14-0.

We are so small on the lines. The SMU QBs were excellent. Eckert is the better passer and Romo the better runner. I like the quarter by quarter rotation and wouldn't mind seeing it the rest of the season.

All in all a good night at Ford. I hope to go home more often not feeling alone and empty. Going home with a win is a pretty good feeling. I could get used to it.
