THE MUSTANG BAND!

Postby MrMustang1965 » Sun Sep 26, 2004 2:59 am

Hats off to the Mustang Band for its yell leading capabilities during the game tonite that - in my opinion - pretty much showed up the SMU cheerleaders! Way to go, MB!

I have to admit, though...I was disappointed ya'll didn't play "Do You Know the Way to San Jose?" (Dionne Warwick & Burt Bacharch tune)
That would have been classic!

If ya'll make the trip to Boise State next week, I *beg* you to find the Smurf cartoon theme and play it!

Thanks for the compliments! Sadly, we aren't going to Boise... that would be a mighty travel bill. Hmm... I'm not sure I WANT to go to Boise... marching on that turn might make me sea sick!

Yeah, they sure did. For a group that had two classes that had never done it, it was pretty exciting for them.

I sure hope that was an alumni band. There were people there older than me huffing and puffing into those horns.

Alums were there. They are always there.

Rah, Rah was awesome! A couple of benches were broken.

Alums are always there on the Boulevard and playing in the stands during the 2nd quarter. The band on the field has no alums except at homecoming.

Couch- understand you can't make the Boise game. The team (and the Boise crowd) will miss the best band in the WAC!

I think that the Mustang band is awesome, and I have the utmost respect for the hard work and tradition they uphold every year. However, I went to the SMU volleyball game against UTEP on Thursday, and I thought that the band made a comment that was very unnecessary. After all of the UTEP players were introduced, the band yelled out, "GO HOME!" I understand the reasoning for it, but I thought it was very disrespectful. It made me ashamed to be a Mustang fan and I hope that it does not happen again. I hope that our fans and our band can support our teams in a positive manner, and not rip on girls who work hard every day and come all the way from El Paso just to play volleyball. I think that Southern Methodist University is better than that. So, Mustang Band, if you are reading this, please be careful about what you say. Thanks.

I'm sure the band will take that under advisement.

Yeah. We don't want to jeopardize our hold on the sportsmanship trophy. Go Home.

Question for the Band?

I recall that the informal title use to be 99 Guys and a Doll. What is the current size (seems smaller) and how many ladies march with you?

Right now I think we have 68-ish marching. Girls currently make up about 1/3 to 2/5 of the band, and thankfully 100% of the twirlers

Any idea what percentage are on scholarship? The best way to get the numbers up is to create and build the scholarship endowment for that - I have heard the Diamond M club (Band financial and other support group) is working on this - correct? If anyone wants to contribute contact the Daimond M club -
