Can someone PLEASE provide the complete lyrics to the song that ya'll sing at the end of the games about 'getting back to my Mustang town'? I've got it on CD but I still can't make out all the words! This song has been a staple for the MB for years and years but I don't think I've EVER seen the words. HELP!

You probably should contact Tommy Tucker in the Mustang Band office to inquire about the lyrics. You can get contact info from

I believe you are referring to Shanty Town - a minimum 30 year tradition.

Shanty Town
There's a campus in a town on a little plot of ground
where the green grass grows all around, all around
the roofs not worn nor badly torn
or tumbled to the ground
just a real cool place that is built way back
about 25 feet from the Hilcrest track
it lingers on my mind
most all the time
keeps calling me back to that little grass shack
I'd be just a sassy as a Mustang lassy
If I were king it wouldn't mean a thing
with the boots so tall and the writing on the wall and it wouldnt mean a thing, not dog gon thing
theres a chick waiting there with a t-bird spare
just blowing her top for me to get there
looking all around and rocking with sound cause i gotta get back to my mustang town! WOO!
(PS - If I got a word or line wrong, please correct me)

Like all true Mustangs its great to hear that song because it usually only comes out when we win.

It's great to hear the song, but they used to play it at every occasion. I thought the finale of any MBand show was "Shanty-Varsity-Home," with a little "Rodeo" at the end...

Greenwich Pony is correct. The band always plays it. It's just that there's only ever anyone left to hear it if we win.

If the band plays for an empty stadium, does it make a sound???

Note to all MB members: I *never* leave a Mustang football game until the final note is played! So...you've got at least ONE person listening and applauding! Thanks to SpatsNBeanies for the lyrics!

Yeah, Mr. Mustang, Shanty - Varsity - Home, is the best part of a win or loss. If you win, it has a clebratory feel. If after a loss, it feels like "well, we'll get 'em next week." I think I've know the lyrics to Shanty since I was twelve, all of my older brothers friends in the band would pull me in and make me sing with them.
I'm also a big fan of the contraversial alternate lyric-
"If I was queen, I'd be a girl"
Of course maybe I'm only a fan of that line because I was told by an elder statesmen that my brother was credited with the lyric and was known to belt it out on occasion. I used it from time to time, and it got a chuckle from the guy on my left (underclassmen), and a scowl from the guy on my right (my section leader). Those were the days. Riding high in the Mustang band. Glory days.
Now, the Busdriver song... uh, never mind... that's not on the Red Hot & Blue disc...

"High on a . . ." oh, yeah. We're not talking about that one.

You may have to start paying closer attention to the low brass section during the singing of Shanty....

I think those very words came out of my mouth on saturday...
