What can you tell us about your defense? Is Boise State better suited to stopping the run or the pass? Or are the Broncos good at everything defensively?

All I know about them is that they have a LB who was preseason WAC defensive player of the year (Avalos or something). Coach Bennett said last year that guy would start on any defense he's ever coached - and he's had some damn good LBs over the years.

I'll give it a shot from Boise . . .

I'd say our defense essentially is dedicated to shutting down the run. Our D backs are often in one to one coverage, and as a result, we do give up more long balls than I'd like. That's how both UTEP and BYU stayed in the game.

I wouldn't be surprised, though, to see some changes from here on out. Those long completions can rip the heart out of a team. I suspect we'll give up less than those after some D adjustments.

If you want to see a real team at work, watch the special teams. These guys are simply amazing. Chris Carr is deadly on returns and BYwho went to squib kicks and gave us the ball repeatedly at the 35+ in order to avoid his runbacks.

Pass a memo along to Coach Hawkins: you need to double-team each of our WRs, even in 4-WR and 5-WR sets. That will leave you with a 1-man front or a 3-man front, in which case I see a big day for Foy Munlin!

Have a great season (after Saturday!)
