Last week, I was pretty close with my prediction for a 30-7 Mustang win.
College Football News predicts Boise in a 65-13 romp.
While the Mustangs are going to struggle in this game, there is no way this game ends in that much of a blow out. The Mustang frosh are starting to adapt to the schemes, and our starters are coming back from injury. Our defense should perform better than it did against OSU or TCU.
Key to the game: The best way to stop a big offense is to generate a pass rush and create turnovers. Neither of which SMU has done much of this season. It will be interesting to see if the return of our safties from injury, as well as Rico Harris, will allow SMU to put in its blitz package. If SMU does not blitz, it will be a long day for the secondary.
Prediction: According to the DMN this morning, SMU WILL be able to emply its speed package, which implies that we will be able to blitz. That will keep the score down, as we start blitzing in the red zone. SMU should also be able to move the ball against Boise, whose defense has not fully arrived this year. But in the end, there is no way SMU can keep up with the Boise offense unless we create around 5 turnovers.
Final Score: Boise 38, SMU 17

i'll be satisfied if we can score a couple of touchdowns.. if we can manage to put together a few solid scoring drives on a pretty good boise D, that could be encouraging.

yep good call. Whats your prediction for the Rice game? The way we are struggling at linebacker and rapping up on tackles, we could struggle like we have against Rice's option the past two years.

Yeah, before I thought we would keep the Rice game close...
That said, against Rice, your DL plays differently; instead of trying stunts or charging up the outside, you concentrate on stuffing the run. That will help us out.
I think it will be interesting to see if there is some personell adjustment specifically for the Rice game - Move Rico to WLB, and have Hall or Avery play MLB, because they are better than Rico and McCray might be too small to handle a strong running team. I also think you will see more Bonds and more Williams, because both are better than others at their positions against the run.
I still think we are much improved and can play a good game vs. Rice. However, we haven't had much luck stopping the run so far this season.
I need to analyze their defense before I make a prediction.
