Anyone else notice who's doing the play by play? That's Ted Dawson, who before he was doing what he's doing now was an Albuquerque spare news guy, but before that I believe was one of the newspeople on hand to break the story in Dallas of our beloved Ponies getting the dp.

He was probably the only other sportscaster in the Dallas market who dressed worst than Dale Hansen did back in the 80s. I actually remember as a kid when he made a cameo appearance in an episode of "The Fall Guy." I remembered reading he was in Boise now. Oh well, I don't care. Was never too fond of him. Just think of it...Hansen...Murray...Dawson. My god, what a sports whip.

Yes, that's Ted Dawson. The local CBS affiliate here brought him in to be the new sports anchor and play by play guy for all the Bronco games. He's beyond awful. Last year when we played you he kept saying Boise State Mustangs and SMU Broncos...

Odds are he wasn't sober that day. He was doing his best Harry Doyle impersonation.

Ah yes, the incomparable Ted Dawson. The man who played a dorky sportscaster geek (what a reach that was) in the movie "Johnnie Be Good." The dork who called the SMU games on radio when football returned in 1989. The guy who showed up at SMU games in gold-rim sunglasses, with way-too-tight Bruce Jenner/John Stockton shorts and tube socks over his knees. How did the Dallas media let this guy get away?

Wow, I forgot about the Johnny B. Goode appearance.

In case anybody was wondering, I can fill in the career gap between Dallas and Boise. He was the sports guy for the ABC affiliate in Palm Springs. I know this because that is where I went to High School (Palm Desert), not becasue I have followed his illustrious career.

Don't be bashful - there's nothing wrong with being a Ted Dawson groupie!

Lets not forget that he had the honor of hosting the incredibly popular and entertaining "John Shumate Show"

When did Shumate have his own show? I remember the Tom Rossley show hosted by the great Wally Lynn - but I don't remember the Shumate show.

You're looking at it. It was on Ch 39. He had it for every season he was coach on Ch 39. The picture was snapped from a video I have from the 1992 season.

Shumate is now a college scout for the NBA's Phoenix Suns.

(Shouldn't this thread be in the 'basketball' forum?)

That probably explains why the Suns' best acquisitions in recent years have been high school draftees (Amare Stoudamire), international draftees, trade acquisitions (Joe Johnson) or free agents (Steve Nash). Who's the last college guy they've drafted who made a significant contribution?

Give Ted a call
