I read the article in the DMN and Bennett says something to the effect that "if anyone is pleased about last night...I've got a problem with them".
Granted this may be "coach speak", but the bottom line is that we lost and really never threatened Boise. Bennett has higher expectations for this program and I'm glad he does. I want him and this team to become impatient with the "maturation" process.
I find myself optimistic about the future as I watch this team with so many underclassmen in the 2 deep showing improvement week after week, but the truth is this team needs to grow up and grow up fast. SMU needs to finish the WAC season with a respectable showing to make sure Bennett and his coaches can continue to build on the recruiting momentum of the last 2 years. And...after last night, is there any doubt left in anyone's mind that we need some playmakers? You don't upset top 25 teams on their turf by dropping balls that hit you in the hands.
Go Ponies. Beat those Owls and make some noise in the WAC.

I like how Coach Bennett has changed his tune. It seems like this makes the SJSU win more of a "turning point," where no longer will a good showing in a loss or even a non-blowout look good. Hopefully this trend will continue, and we'll see each Pony make plays all game long like we saw last night when SMU went up 7-0.
It was so relieving not to hear, "well, we were outcoached and so blame me."

Winning the second half and making the final score look like a few plays could have put us in the game is encouraging. It says that we need to get on MrM's band wagon and expect SMU to have a shot in all of our remaining games, especially after Fresno lost.
Go Ponies!! Beat whoever it is we are playing!! @PonyGrad

If we have a Bandwagon, how many Mustangs are hitched up now? One, two,? My image is the Sooner Schooner, which would have a team of a dozen or so.

I'm not really sure what this team can do? We won't know until they play mistake-free or near mistake-free game. They could have been in that game Sat. night. But, we'll never know as long as they keep making the mistakes they make; particularly the dumb penalties. What might have happened if the kick return stands giving us execellent field position and momentum? We'll never know because of a dumb penalty costing 35-40 yards in field position. And it was that way ALL night long. At the very least the game could have been more competitive.
We get hammered by Boise making those mistakes. We manage to beat SJSU making them. The rest of the games we have, including Fresno, will, in all probability, be decided by those mistakes. And five games into the schedule they show no signs of eliminating them.
I'm happy with most of the effort. But, the lack of concentration exhibited by those mistakes makes me tired! ...and discouraged for the possibilities for the balance of the season.

Don't be discouraged, smudad. It's all part of the learning process. The team played much better against SJS for the win, and although I didn't see the BSU game, it sounds like we played relatively well there, too -- I was afraid of a potential blowout. We can play with most of the teams remaining on our schedule, and eliminating those mistakes will mean a few wins along the way. Progress clearly is being made. The results have started to appear this year, and will be even more evident next year. Keep the faith -- we're on the right track.
