Is there a reason Massey isn't playing? We are getting no production from our running game and Massey was one of our best recruits........does he get along with the coaches?

I believe it was in a Dallas Morning News story posted on PonyFans earlier this week that there was a quote from Bennett saying they weren't getting production at RB and that Massey was going to get more carries.

to me it doesn't appear that he has the documented speed he had in high school. Now he did hurt I believe his knee or foot at the end of his high school days and they claim (ala Chris Phillips) that he was hurt in the OSU(?) game last year right before the medical hardship deadline. (Amazing how those injuries occur isn't it). To be fair I've never seen a particularly big hole open for him but for whatever reason he's appears slow to the line of scrimmage and he's getting hit even before he gets out of the backfirld. Not sure if I've drawn a definite conclusion that he's lost a step or he suffers from lousy blocking-but the job ain't been getting done.

That is too bad if he has lost a step. From his bio it sounds like he was a very sought after recruit.......amazing enough he came here.
We have got to get more from our running game. Hopefully one of our guys steps up.

Yup - hurt his knee in his senior year of HS, and then strained his Achilles (I think) in the Okie State game last year - bad enough that they contemplated surgery. That he came back to practice the last couple of weeks was considered impressive by the coaches. And to answer the earlier question, he gets along great with the coaches - they love the guy. He's had a hell of a year, and perhaps he has lost a step - I don't know. But he's supposed to get a shot at it Saturday. Good luck, Richuel!

Massey's a real good kid, and I want nothing but the best for him.

His bio on SMUmustangs.com and the newspapers from his hometown both say he broke his foot at the end of his senior year. No mention of a knee injury.
I've always wondered why he kept dressing out for all the home games, if he was hurt so bad? You make it sound like he should have been on crutches. On game days it looked like he was still ready to play. I'm not a doctor, but there seems to be a gap somewhere between what you're saying, and what I actually saw.[/list]

Let's get his a** in there and see what he can do. I don't make sizeable donations to the athletic program to see talent like that sit on the sidelines. Give him 4 or 5 carries and he can't get anything done, bring someone else in.
We need a running game tomorrow and we need points. There will be no absolute shutdown of Rice's offense......we will have to score at least in the mid twenties to have a chance.

Even though he plays defense now, Johnny Fitzgerald should get some carries. That guy is so good.
