Thoughts on Owlvision (Rice internet broadcast)?

I can't make it to the game this weekend, but I have access to a computer. Has anyone seen the quality of Owlvision? Is there sound? Are there commentators? Is it one camera or different angles? Is it worth the $10?
Thanks for your help...

I've not seen football on it but basketball was worth the money. I think they had the radio station that carried Rice's games for the audio but don't remember for sure. Hey- it's only $10. How far wrong can you go?

I'm hoping that the radio delay and video delay aren't too far off from one another, and hopefully I'll have The Ticket's audio open and Owlvision in another window.

Some of you might know that a team of us tried to bring this technology to SMU for this year. We had to stop because it is in direct violation with the WAC TV contract with ESPN. Same will be true of C-USA.
With that said, we looked at archived Rice football games as part of our design work, and I can vouch for very good Owl Vision quality for both video and audio. The audio you will hear will be the Rice radio broadcast, which is syched with the video. They also have other capabilities such as chat board (which you will be able to participate in), stats, etc. It's a very nice, albeit illegal, package.
Bottom line, this is a very rare opportunity for those out of state to see the Ponies. I wouldn't pass it up.
By the way I have only seen it in broadband (in my case DSL). I have not seen dial up which they offer as well. My guess is that dial up is a pretty poor offering.

If it is illegal, how do they get away with it? Doesn't Hawaii also do it?

OP,
Yes, it is illegal, and I got that straight from the mouth of Jeff Hurd, the Associate Commissioner of the WAC for Media. Internet streaming is specifically mentioned in the contract as a form of national and international distribution to which ESPN holds exclusive rights (even though we all know they don't use those rights very much for the WAC, and not at all for SMU).
Both Hawaii and Rice started streaming before the ESPN contracts got very specific about Internet streaming, so there was a gray area before. Unfortunately there is no longer any gray. My guess is at this point ESPN is thinking it is only Hawaii and Rice....no big deal. But if we saw any poliferation of streaming, I am sure ESPN would step in with a cease and disist, at a minimum.
Believe me, if it was legal everybody would be doing it. It is relatively inexpensive to do, and delivers terrific value.

It's a shame we were late. I agree, it is a great value. For us out of staters, it is fantastic.

Knuckle,
I am glad you got signed up. I tried to find your e-mail to be sure you were aware of it for tonight, but your e-mail is not listed on the site. I also looked for SoCal and NoCal to no avail. Hopefully everybody will become aware before game time.
