The SMU administration has not a clue

I am so discouraged over SMU football that I am becoming very angry with the Administration for hindering SMU's return to the top in football. I graduated from SMU as did my son. That may be it in this family. Sad but a distint possibility. It's so frustrating when you see what is happening and can't do anything abut it.

...not sure how much "hindering" the Administration is really doing....Ford Stadium, practice facilities, other resources for learning / weight room etc. seem to have been REALLY upgraded...new conferance down the road...Navy seems to have figured it out, UVA is ranked, look at Georgia Tech, Northwestern, etc.....is a couple of "questionable recruits" year in year out, REALLY the difference between 2-9 & 9-2? Frustrating.....and ps, I hope one of my kids ends up on the Hilltop. Long Live Mike Randle.

You really do not have a clue. The administration puts restrictions in place and creates rules that do not equate into competiting at the Division 1-A level, much less winning. Facilities do not mean crap when a kid cannot get accepted into your freak'in school or his credits will not transfer so he decides to go elsewhere like TCU or Tulsa. Do me a favor and everyone else who reads this message board and pull your head out of your [deleted].

A true commitment would include a course of study (Sports Management?) that would appeal to athletes who aspire to play professionally or are thinking about coaching after their playing days are over. A program designed for the physically, but not necessarily academically gifted, student athlete. A program that would be more conducive to attracting JUCO transfers, etc, etc, etc... BUT, we all know that's not the course SMU has chosen, so all we've got left is to wait patiently to see if Bennett can build a competitive program by 2006 going the H.S. route. It certainly appears the majority of SMU students, alumni, faculty, etc...don't really care much about athletics. That's the cold hard reality of why we are where we are today.

I agree with many of the points made in the above posts, however, what I don't get is the fact that we are playing poorer football over the last couple of years than at any time since coming back from the DP.
This is true in spite of vastly improved facilities, and a huge improvement in admission policies (particularly years immediately following reinstatement of football).
I submit that we have a two pronged problem. One, we need the level playing field and, two, apparently Copeland has made another (and I hope his last) bad coaching choice.
