After flushing another Saturday evening down the toilet, I began to wonder who should we get rid of first. The Coach, the AD, or both.

Doom-preaching fans who aren't willing or patient enough to let such a young team grow.

Maybe I drink the red&blue Kool-Aid, but Bennett and Copeland shouldn't lose their jobs when we played a team that had 10 seniors on defense and 9 (I think) on offense when we're floating out an offensive line that is mostly sophomores, a linebacker crew with as many redshirt freshmen as upperclassmen and youth everywhere else. If we're playing like this when these guys are juniors and seniors, then there's reason for this discussion, but not before.

Buddha, you make a good point. It's easy to forget we lost our QB, who right about now would have the equivalent of a full season under his belt. Losing our 2 best inside LBs was a major blow and then perhaps our best pass rusher in Muse. It's easy to forget we are still trying to compete with entirely too many Frosh and Sophs on the field...and that we have some quality guys redshirting this year.

Having said that, my concern is how fragile this team seems to be. I thought Bennett's enthusiasm and never say die attitude would be reflected by this team, but it sure seems like these guys meltdown at the 1st sign of adversity.

I'm not quite ready to jump on the "we need yet another coach" bandwagon because I've pointed to next year as the key for evaluating this coaching staff. Next year, the "we are now a JV team" excuse won't fly. Good time to have a week off, but I'd rather be playing Nevada next rather than Fresno. Should be interesting to see whether this bunch is ready to play the rest of the season.

That's funny...that was my question after the Rice loss...I think you already got your answer last night...

As far as Bennett and Copeland are concerned, I think Bennett should be canned if he doesn't lead the team to at least two more wins this season.

I'm not quite ready to pull the trigger on Copeland (YET) because I think he has made some good strides (although he has also made a few flubs, too--hiring Bennett, track team debacle). However, if Bennett and the team fail to get another win this season and Copeland fails to step up and call for his ouster, I will change my vote to nixing him as well.

If the Mustangs go 1-10 or 2-9, it will be time for all of us alumni who care to step up and do what each of us can to effect change--financial contributions with conditions, meetings with Turner and Copeland, letters to the administration, helping to generate a public campaign for change, etc. We all can do something and must!

Remember at the beginning of this year when a bunch of PonyFans predicted 1 or 2 wins -- and then a few more next year -- and then got dogpiled by some of the more aggressive fans who thought that total was too low? The explanation at the time was the number of young players who were going to have to play key roles. There are some good players, and they're trying to learn on the fly. The last two games have shown us that for all their size, speed -- whatever -- some of them just aren't ready. But I remain confident they will be.

SMU's fans are the first ones to go on with this kind of team. Only wining will get them back. Either way something has to change. Others have done more with less.
