This what I have surmised from your posts.

1) Bennett is wonderful.

2) Our recruits are awesome.

3) I know more than everyone else, how dare anyone challenge me about SMU football.

I think most people on this board realize that recruiting is a real problem.
Even though are players young, that doesn't mean we have to get killed by teams Rice and La. Tech. If coaching and recruiting are the problem, why would you not go after a better coach? I DON'T THINK YOU HAVE A CLUE!!

You have to admit that you would get pumped if we got Hill. He is clearly an up and coming coach, and UCLA may beat us to him. That is probably due to people like you in the alumni base, who are content talking yearly about how great recruiting is going.

You have so much anger, I am sorry that you listen to those shockjocks on the Ticket.

It's time some of you get a grip. It makes little sense to fire the coach every 3-4 years. Do you think Rossley didn't know football? All of these guys had a degree of success somewhere or they wouldn't have been hired. Do you tink they flushed that knowledge out of their heads when they got to SMU? Get it through your head--- We can not hire a name coach. The money isn't there nor is the coaching job an attractive one. Mid level conference at best, difficulty to transfer JC or other college credits to SMU, no fan base (when we won it was very mediocre), uninterested student body. What we do have going is a good school, and good city and a nice but small stadium. Our tradtion is fast becoming obsolete. No HS players today can remember a good SMU team. This is the prescription for a graveyard for coaches. Why would a name coach come to this situation? They won't.

Funny, that is what they said about Miami before the early 1980's. Also, that is what they said about Oklahoma before Stoops got there. YOU ARE THE GUY IN OKLAHOMA SAYING, "GIVE BLAKE ONE MORE YEAR!"

I know you buy into the media negativity, but I respect my school to much to sit by and let you trash it so vehemently. I THINK WE CAN BE GOOD. Some of us are not content with mediocrity.

Do you think we could get Blake to come here? That would be great to bring in a guy with experience in being a head coach of a BCS program.

Maybe if we had someone like Blake here, he would have been able to identify better with Adrian Peterson. Between having a coach of Blake's caliber here and AP's second cousin being a former Mustang, he'd have been a lock for sure!!!

We would never have been a lock at all. Let's compare:

--immediate starter at consistent top 5 OU with Heisman QB

--immediate starter (possibly) at mid-major SMU with no media exposure

Some comments on this thread:

Pat Hill's "methods" of building a football program would not be compatible with SMU or numerous other D-1A programs. Stallion is right about that.

Bob Stoops analogy - Stoops was DC or co-DC (and a top assistant coach) at Florida and Kansas State before arriving in Norman.

Phil Bennett was Kansas State's DC for three years prior to arriving at SMU. OU did not hire a "name head coach" prior to their turnaround.

They took a chance on a highly regarded assistant...previously from KSU.

It does not matter who is the head coach. SMU will continue to get embarrassed until the adminstration changes its admission policies and its view towards the athletic program. Good players make good coaches. SMU does not have the talent of even their unranked WAC opponents because SMU does not make it realistic for Division 1-A tranfers and JUCO transfers to come here. Period. End of story. You folks have two choices (1) you can accept that SMU will continue to get embarressed every Saturday until it changes its policies, or (2) quit going to games and quit giving money to the Mustang Club. Unfortunately, most of the alumni, students, etc. have chosen option 2. Question? Who is the biggest chump of all of the SMU alumni? Gerald Ford....20 million for this? I bet he wishes he had his 20 million back. I hope Copeland and Turner resign soon. I am sick of their continual lies and rhetoric. Enough is enough.

Sir Trolls, attacking Stallion shows how little your know about this Board, football and challenges he has been making for years. Of anyone here, he is not a apologist for the school. Pay attention.

And Johnny, when you call someone a liar, you deserve to be called out. Get a life.

Stallion is right on. You can't change coaches every three years and expect anyone with stature to come here. Now if the Fat Guy and Sir Trolls a Lot have a spare $100 Million laying around, they can dictate whatever changes they want. Heck some big TCU donor threatened to pull out his support unless TCU went to the MWC.
I see Johnny Rock now is on a crusade about our JUCO transfer policies as opposed to firing Bennett which was his crusade last week. So I hereby rename him Johnny Kerry. So the reason we lose now is because we can't recruit JUCO players. That is one reason. With a bare cupboard in 2002, we could not recruit many JUCO players and have been building through freshman recruiting. That method takes longer to build a program, but has a more lasting effect. So, we are losing now, in hopes of having a more competitive team for the long haul. I can't figure out how you guys left Rick Neuheisel off the list of big name coaches that will surely come here. I mean lets get a guy who has more recent baggage than Switzer (I will now remove the tongue from my cheek).

With regards to #3, weren't you on here a couple of weeks ago lamenting the fact that SMU would not recruit the kid who was a very late qualifier who went to NT? Would that not have required SMU to recruit a non-qualifier during the recruiting period?
