Thoughts on recent posts/posters

I'm a regular poster who is posting under a new moniker because of my fear of the "powers that be" on this board. I love ponyfans.com, but I know that there are certian people I don't want to make mad, lest I be ostracized from this otherwise wonderful community.

A lot of bandwidth as of late has been devoted to denegrating new posters like Sir Trolls and Fat Guy. While it's easy to make such comments through the anonimity of the Internet, the fact is that these two individuals are obviously dedicated alumni who are not afraid of asking hard questions or making interesting proposals. Are some of their ideas, like bringing Switzer here, a little far fetched? Sure. But they're dreamers, and as one myself, I'm glad I'm not the only one.

Sir Trolls and Fat Guy - I might not agree with everything you say, but I will fight to the death for your right to say it.

There are just some really bitter fans on this board that constantly listen to the Ticket. It is sad, but that is what the Dallas media has to offer. They are so negative they cannot even get excited about the possibility of improvement.

Fear the powers that be???? Who, the webguys? They could find out who you are at any time they wanted to. So who else is a problem here for you to fear...the mafia? the feds? Joe beer belly who knows who you really are by your old moniker?

I would say that up to this point, all of their proposals are not only far fetched, but I would say purposefully made to incite rancor on the board. Sir troll a lot didn't call himself that for a lack of imagination, he is what he is. And you are more than likely him also.

It has been extremely disheartening to read the recent posts - especially what's been written since the LaTech debacle - and how personal they've become toward players, coaches and other posters. This is a terrific site, and more importantly, the vast majority of those who post on this site seem to be good people who are loyal supporters of SMU and its athletes. None of us liked the LaTech game (my drive home was long, to say the least), but we've had a day to vent and calm down. Let's not slide into a community of finger-pointing and name-calling. The whole reason this site exists is for the purpose of discussing and supporting SMU sports, right?

I do not listen to the Ticket at all, but for the sake of argument, you must acknowledge that the Ticket has naught to do with the fact that SMU football sucks and has sucked for the better part of the last 15 years. Some people on this board are not afraid to speak their minds irrespective of their radio listening preferences.

Oh, please. what courage does it take to launch anonymous attacks on the school, adminstration, coaches, AD and players? The defense of the Constitution comment by another to justify speaking freely diminishes what the right guarantees us. This is not life or death. These are student athletes playing for their school and in most cases our alma mater.

I like Stallion's challenges because they make you think and are generally based on the facts. Questioning the motives of those trying to make it better is not constructive. Challenge their decisions and, perhaps, their skills, but not their commitment to the school, the students and, frankly, us.

The argument that only a few have the "courage" to tell it like it is means courage has no value. IF it looks like a flame, smells like a flame and talks like a flame, it's a flame.l

Gee, I hope you don't live in fear the rest of your life because that would make you a bigger LOSER than our football team has ever been. Just my 2 cents. If you have convictions stand by them out in the open.

I know a lot of former players that would take issue with that statement. We have guys giving everything they got, that is why I don't like it when JTSTANG, SMUPONY, and STALLION just rip on them indiscriminately.

I am with the players and I think they deserve a new coach.

Look, I have no beef with the players--I presume they are "giving everything they got" to the tune of 1-18 or whatever it is over the last two seasons. But as a team they suck and have for a while, and contrary to your inane ramblings, the Ticket is not the reason. Don't listen to the Ticket if you don't like it, but don't come on here and say that a radio station is the reason a lot of people are down on this team.

we have had four head coaches since the death penalty.......yet we have had the same results, if we hire yet another new coach, and don't make any other policy changes, we are going to get the same results with the new head coach that we would with the old one. The only arguement in favor of a new head coach is that it seems as though the administration relaxes the recruiting policies a little more each time we hire a new coach. Maybe in two or three hires from now (8-12 years) we will finally be at the place where we can realistically compete with our rivals.

When I refer to the "powers that be," I do not refer to the webmasters. I appreciate their allowing unfettered discourse about our alma mater on this website.

There is, however, a hierarchy on this website, one of certian established posters who waste no time in quickly attacking new posters that bring new ideas to the board. These posters who gang up on newbies are the true powers that be. The vitrol of this thread proves my point. Do not question established posters and do not encourage new ideas is the MO of the establishment. Is there any connection between the fact that new ideas are regularly dismissed on this forum and that our football program continues to make the same mistakes and stays stagnant?

It is an anti-change attitude, my friends, and it is killing our beloved program. Like I said earlier, I do not agree with everything some of my fellow posters say, but I will defend their right to say it.

Surely you are not so naive as to really think that any criticism and/or idea stated on this board is going to affect anything in the way the University runs it's affairs! I'm sure the real powers that be, i.e., the Board of Trustees, the Administration or the AD and staff are going to run out and interview Pat Hill, etal. because someone posted the idea on this board...get real.

And they say the sunshiners have lost touch with reality.

LBL, you hang in there.who really gives a damn what PK,Peruna or anybody else thinks. I for one have been saying bennett(I refuse to Cap the name because he has never earned that respect) should be fired from his first Navy game. look what other teams have done since his arrival. Navy had the worst losing streak in the nation when we played them. This year they just lost their first game to Notre Dame and we are still losing. Tulsa is on the rise,UTEP is on the rise,Houston is on the rise and why? COACHING. If you go back to the 2002 threads all of these posters PK,PP, etc were all saying or agreeing that our team was young and needed time to gel, Hell two years later they are saying the same thing. They are just Polly Parrotting what bennett is saying. These are the same ones that probably attend the morning breakfast with phil or go to Ozona's and they think they know "the inside" Well, let me tell you,you don't have to eat breakfast with phil to know that he does not know how to coach. And I am not sold on his recruiting,I think he should have done alot better since he is not facing the restrictions Cavan and Rossley and the rest had. Folks ya'll had better open your eyes or talk to some other people because phil just does not have it PERIOD
