Let's stop this rancor with PONYBALL!

Postby Sir Trolls A Lot » Mon Oct 18, 2004 6:23 pm

Allow me to return to the subject that originally brought me to this board.

Ponyfans, this is a time when we sit at our computers divided, arguing about the direction of our beloved football program. Football divides us.

We must all pursue a mutal goal to bring us back together. What is America's past time? What has brought Americans together for over 100 years? IT IS OBVIOUS THE TIME HAS COME FOR BASEBALL ON THE HILLTOP.

Let's convert the football stadium to a proper arena for baseball!

PONYBALL FOR LIFE!!!

Sorry dude, but college baseball is boring. If you argued for putting more resources into basketball, I could perhaps agree.

However, it would [deleted] people like SMUGUY and Stallion off. They thrive off of bashing the players and revel in their knowledge of recruiting one and two star recruits. I don't know if baseball recruiting could be as big of power base for them.

First, I know we'll never have baseball again at SMU. However, I disagree that college baseball has to be or necessarily is boring. Take metal bats out of the game and give 25 instead of 11.7 scholarships and the whole thing picks up. At A&M, baseball games are as interesting and fun as football games. Their fans understand the game and really get into them. This, in spite of having outfielders all with backs against the outfield walls (there's those metal bats again). I know the same thing is true in Austin.

Dr. Turner was responsible for building a first rate baseball complex at Ole Miss. I know he would have liked to do the same thing here. But, with Title IX and the shape of our overall athletic program (especially football), it just ain't gonna happen. But I'd rather watch it than what I saw last Saturday night.

I agree with you on one part: college baseball is boring. Metal bats make it like a pinball machine.

However, I can't disagree with you more about Smuguy and Stallion. Stallion's complaints, from what I've read, are more with the model and the team's ability to recruit certain guys, either as a matter of procedure within the program or as a matter of policy within the university's administration. And all I've read from Smuguy is comments about the youth and physical immaturity of the players. From the posts I've seen, he's as supportive of SMU as anyone on this board.
