When I applied to SMU we finished ranked #5 in the country, the year 1985! In the fall of 1986 we spent the first half of the season on the top 25, then.........................we hit Rock Bottom...........................what happened should be a Harvard Business school review case! But any study group in the country would probably say that Phil Bennett's paltry 4 wins over the last 3 years is not the answer!

As far as Forrest Gregg goes he is a hero to every Mustang for coaching our team that had 12 scholarship players to 2 wins!

Bottom Line Phil bennett has three recruiting classes, he coaches in the WAC and lets get real folks we are not improving. Where is The Commitment?????
Winning begins and ends at he top! Great Coaches find ways to win games- Phil has won once in the last two years.

Neuheisel, Tomey, Spurrier, Holtz Bring in a name coach and the winning and fans will be back (Cause I wan't party like its 1982!)

Right away we know you are lying -- SMU was 6-5 in 1985 and on probation... we then finished 6-5 again in 1986.

The last time SMU was in the final top 5 was 1982.

a small factual error. The first team had 45 scholarship players-15 in the year that they didn't field a team and 30 in the first year.

We also finished the 1984 season with a #7 ranking (ponygrad's question concerned the Top 10) and a bowl win over Notre Dame, but what does your point about 6-5 have to do with ponygrad94's issue re lack of commitment and a cold shoulder to a 1-18 record over the last 2 years.
