Signage - Think about it.

Postby BUS » Tue Nov 02, 2004 8:41 am

I am sure you know that Pres. Bush spoke lst night at Moody. It was all over the news. ASk your co-workers " Where is Moody "?

For years I brought up the idea of working with TXDOT to improve signage on Central expressway. ( Think about it as Advertising impressions )

The signs as you travel south should have SMU on them and have Moody/Ford on the bottom.

Here we are as Dallas' Div I school and no one knows where we are.

Of course the only person that saw the idea as good advertising is .. gone.

Its a damn good idea. The fact that we dont have such signs shows the bubble mentality that has gone on for too long.

What I was wanting was a letter from SMU person letting me talk to TXDOT. Office is in Austin, the first exit past the river going south.

Even if SMU had to pay the fee to change the signs - Just think of the Advertising that would be. SMU - Ford Stadium/ Moody Col.

This would be a daily reminder to thousands of people that SMU IS Dallas' school.

I assume there will be separate signs for the George W. Bush Presidential Library. Think they'll remodel the interior of Mrs Baird's or demolish Dallas Hall for the shrine?

Damn good idea. Why is that posters are the ones with the great ideas? How do we get this ball rolling. There should be signs for Ford/Moody going North and South on 75. I think they had them before the 75 construction way back when.

Here are two places to start our letter writing campaign to make this happen. (great idea, too...wish I had thought of it!)

web site address for State Senator John Carona

web site address for Tx. House of Representative Dan Branch

Funny you mention this. I had the same thought when I was driving past the AAC last week. They have signs all over downtown and on the freeways telling you where to exit for the AAC. I was going to mention this to the marketing staff at the first B-ball game. I would imagine this is something that should be pursued through TXDOT and not our elected officials, maybe even the city of Dallas. I hate to pass the buck (I'm a new grad and very very busy with my new job since I'm the low man on the todum pole), but I think this should be pursued by someone on this board. As much as I respect our marketing staff, I don't think they will follow through on this item.

The correct contact is TXDOT and yes the marketing department has, in the past, talked about it. Very briefly. People have changed but I am sure there was a file left behind.
I had offerd to start the ball rolling. Nothing, and that's fine, but someone needs to get it done.
