I did see last night that it is on game plan, but the time was set a long time ago for what ever reason.

I heard the marketing department felt that with a 5 p.m. start we would have a chance to get more people out to the game (especially students) because it would be before parties start, after the "hot" part of the day, and allow folks to get home at a decent hour so they could bring their kids.

Wouldn't a 2pm start accomplish those things?

The athletic marketing department did a survey and most people who answered the survey said that later starts have less conflicts with kids soccer, baseball and other events. Therefore, in an effort to increase attendance, all SMU home games have a later start, except homecoming.
It's just a marketing thing.

I like the 5:00 start time - keeps the conflicts low with kids sports, and you can still go out after the game - also increases our concession because people eat dinner there - (I didn't say they enjoyed dinner - they just eat dinner). This has been hashed alot on this site hwoever and it seems pretty split.

we'll see how split it is when 5,000 show up Saturday. The half that's split wont show up to sit in a cold rain in the dark. Weather prediction for Saturday has gotten colder and colder each day this week-the latest says a high of 49 with rain. Obviously, this marketing genius hasn't been around SMU of their fair-weathered fans long.

Let's pray it doesn't rain otherwise we will end up with a crowd similar to the beating we took from tcu after Thanksgiving in 2000. The only people inthe stands were parents of players and bandsmen, oh and a couple of hundred tcu fans shouting "stay Fran stay." That was the most miserable game I can ever remember being at.

Hey stallion - cold rain at 2 ain't any more fun the cold rain at 5:00 - I guess if your eyes are going you don't want to drive home in the dark?

At 2, at least its warming to the afternoon high of 55 in the cold rain. At 5, we (the other 14 fans sitting outside that don't have club seat tickets) may be sitting in freezing rain by the time we leave at 8pm+ I guess if I
try to bring in my umbrella, it will be confiscated so I won't block the view of all the empty seats behind me
We've been Copelanded again

The least we can do is come out and support 'em...rain or shine, hot or cold! I'll be bundled up and ready...how about the rest of ya?????? GO MUSTANGS! BEAT THE HELL OUTTA THE WOLFPACK!

abezontar forgot about the ESPN crew that was there in 2000 also. Man, is it me or does it seem like ages since an SMU game has been on ESPN?

My bad, so I guess that would have doubled the attendence at that game? The last game I remember being televised at Ford stadium was the overtime loss to Hawaii, on texas/ou weekend (I don't remember if it was ESPN though). There was a heck of a crowd that day too, and good 500 strong.
