What a complete joke. There's no way to call it anything else.
At least they didn't beg their way into the Orange Bowl. Although considering the money behind UT's program -- and their new status as Notre Dame's equal in the "it's our birthright to be treated better than everyone else" department -- it's hard to believe they didn't get that, too.

Mustangs35 I have always appreciated your incredible enthusiasm and support for SMU, but I would venture to say that there is not another single poster on this board who is pleased and / or cares that Texas got a BCS bowl. They lead the charge on the breakup of the SWC, and have publically stated in the past that they would not consider scheduling us again. They also played a very supportive role in the investigation of SMU before the DP was handed down. SMU fans that support Texas in any way would be an extremely rare breed.

Very well said. Don't lose your enthusiasm, 35 - just keep in mind, as DP says, that you won't find a lot of UT fans around SMU.

I don't think Mustangs35SMU was displaying any enthusiasm for UT only stating how embarassing it is for Cal. The BcS screws each other almost as much as they screw the rest of us.

Mack's whining and begging for support and attention is almist as disgusting as ESPN's repeated promoting of that stupid earnhart movie they're trying to make us think is interesting. Those commercials every 10 seconds are painful, much like Mack's sniveling. Too bad it worked for him.

Texas clearly deserved a BCS bid this year. I can name about 3 teams that didn't but UT definitely did.

Lets get this straight- When a mediocre Southern Miss team takes you to the 4th quarter then you will drop in the rankings. Aaron Rodgers sounded like he was living in denial yesterday. He should worry about Tech and Saddam Leach hanging 70 on them.

I hate the Horns as much as anyone, but they did deserve a BCS bowl game. There’s no doubt they’re one of the six best teams in the country. IMHO, here are the top six teams:
USC, OU, Auburn, UT, Cal, Utah
Add the winners of the Big Ten (Michigan) and the ACC (Virginia Tech) and have a playoff. Decide it on the field. In three weeks you would have a true champion.
#1 USC vs #8 VT
#2 OU vs #7 Michigan
#3 Auburn vs #6 Utah
#4 UT vs #5 Cal

It is just the nature of the bias. The BCS has a huge bias for the Big 12. The Big 12 receives preferential treatment over other conferences. How else could one explain OU’s appearance in the National championship game after getting blown out by KSU. And how could one explain Nebraska’s appearance in the National Championship game after getting creamed by Colorado a few years back. And which teams were left out to make way for Big 12? One year Oregon and the next time it is USC. Both Pac 10 teams and both deserved to play. But the BCS is not about rewarding teams for excellence. The BCS is about money for the cartel members and some members are more equal than others.
Also, why in the world is Pitt in the BCS?

Lucky for UT that Cal didn't drop lower, or Boise might have slipped in at #6 and gotten a second auto bid for a non-BCS team. That would have been very just deserts for our friends in Austin.

This is worst case for the Rose Bowl that no Pac 10 team gets to go. Cal was deserving as much as Texas and has the tradition.
Rose Bowl will want to get out of BCS arrangement, if they can't get their PAC 10 or Big Ten preference.
