I post one provocative post on the Rice Owl message board -perhaps the sleepiest I've ever seen-and it results in almost 50 posts in 12 hours-that's about a week's worth on that board. Perhaps for the good of SMU's program we should all go over there and encourage them to dump Hatfield. I still can't believe that there are educated people that think Rice is losing because of Ken Hatfield. I gurantee you just about every coach in America would get a big laugh out of that.

Personally, I feel that any coach who wins a Co-Southwest Conference championship at RICE in the 90's deserves tenure.

Stallion, you hit a nerve. I feel like I was looking into a mirror. Also, Rich Gerlach on the Rice Board appears to be in agreement with you.

For what it's worth, Rice, Tulsa, Tulane and SMU need to collectively figure this challenge out. I would hate to think that we all remain anchors to what could be a great new conference for the likes of us.

Attendance, revenue and competitiveness must be improve. And for some, it is facilities, e.g. Rice and Tulane. We can't take any comfort in the dilemma of others because we have met the enemy and it's us.

Great post. Getting the Owls excited is fun to watch. I loved an Owl quote, ""We'll cross that bridge while we burn it!"

Im with you, Water...

Which is why the moniker, "SWC2010", is a battlecry, not a profile name.

It's time SMU, TCU, UTEP & (even) Baylor wake up & realign with possibly Tulsa, Rice, Tulane & others (perhaps, UNT, LaTech) before the "BCS" & the Chancellors of a few schools such as TX/OhSt/MI/LSU, etc. run us out of business (read D-I) altogether...
