For anyone who might be interested, the Mustang Band and cheerleaders have been uninvited. The reason given is that the parade will now feature a theme honoring soldiers and their families. Somehow the UT band and the A&M band qualify for this parade, but we don't. It is disappointing.

Is the band going to get to keep the money donated to them so that they could go to the parade in the first place?

Yep, it'll go on and on. By the way... Isn't there a military uniform left over from "The Best Dressed Band in the Land" days? How 'bout it, Cy?

That's fine, but let's skip right to the flute stories.

Waitaminute. Just because the Mustang Band went to the first inauguration doesn't necessarily mean that they're invited back for round two of "W" in the White House. When was the official 'invitation' extended? I'd like to hear from couch'em, MustangSally or someone else associated with the band about this.

Apparently, someone on the board of trustees is affiliated with the inaugaration committie or something...not sure. It was to the point that it was a verbal invitation, including President Turner congratulating us on our invitation. All arrangements including flight and such were arranged. Then, they deceided to change the theme, and we were no longer welcome. Very disappointing. There have been no 'official' written invitations for anyone yet.
Note: I don't want to sound like I'm [deleted] about this - nobody should feel that they are owed an invite to a Presidential inaugration. But it is quite disappointing.
DiamondM75: They are invited as the offical marching band of Texas or some such. A&M is invited because of the corps and ROTC type connections.

No, they're just going in case some uppity cheerleader tries to walk on the White House lawn. They know how to protect sacred grass!

As of two days ago, I spoke to an Interior Department friend who is on the inaugural parade planning committee and he was pretty clear that SMU was going to be marching in the parade. But he might have had that information from a preliminary meeting. I can see the Aggies being invited George H. W. Bush has his library there. But the f...n Horns, I see no reason for that, but they have on their website that they will be leading the Inaugural Parade. I guess President Turner needs to put in a call to Laura and let her know what's going on in the Inaugural Committee. Then again, he might not want to pee in the water while we're negotiating for a Presidential Library.
