Jerry Ball's SWC Championship ring on ebay....

I was just browsing eBay and came across this ring:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi ... 15416&rd=1

Everything might be completely legit, but I had to wonder why someone would want to part with their conference championship ring...

A couple of months ago, I saw a discussion on another message board about a I-AA national championship ring. Someone on the message board just happened to know the person who the ring belonged to, and he also just happened to be a police officer. He called up the guy and it turned out the ring was stolen... the police officer took care of the paperwork with ebay and the PD and was able to get it back.

Like I said, I have no reason to believe this isn't a legitimate sale, but just in case it's not I just thought I'd bring it to your attention, and maybe someone can help it find its rightful owner.

Anyway, can't wait for USM-SMU games!

Well, one thing I noticed is that the seller gave his email address, so I checked out the domain foxfoundation.com,which appears to be a dallas area foundation repair company. Maybe Ball sold it to him and now he's selling it, who knows.

Why would he sell that ring?

I have a high school ring, college (undergraduate) ring, and a graduate school ring. I would never sell my high school ring, even though I moved on a long time ago.

I just don't understand.

It is currently selling for $330. Does anyone know what the stone is and whether SMU selected diamonds or CZ as the seller suggested? This might make an interesting purchase for someone and I wonder what it really is worth? Any guesses...

The stones in those rings were CZ's, not real. The gold was real, and if I remember right, the rings were worth around $500.
I havent seen the pictures of this ring, but the sellers description is accurate, that is what one of the rings from that year would have looked like.

I've wanted to mention that just because the ring is for sale, that doesnt neccessarily mean that Jerry gave his away. My ring from that year was stolen out of a health club locker, 7-8 years ago. Things like that get lost or stolen sometimes. Also, the company that made the rings will sometimes make more than one copy, I've seen fakes for sale on eBay before, and I've been told they can remake the ring I lost, if I pay for it. I dont know how this particular ring came to be for sale, I'm just saying it might be without Jerry's knowledge, or it might not have been his original ring.
