What is so special about Pearce? I don't understand why so many people like him. I don't really have an opinion of him and don't know much about him other than a bio that I read. What do ya'll think?

Mac, he's not what we need. He is the QB coach at UCLA and the former head coach at DI-AA SFA. He shouldn't even be discussed as a possibility, but that's completely my opinion.

I agree. I just thought I was being kind of pessimistic bashing a lot of the canidates. I want a big name coach.

What about Holtz?

Also to throw another name out there...what about John Cooper, the old Ohio State Coach. He is a pretty big name and he had a bunch of good teams in the 90's. The man had some talent on those OSU teams. Eddie George, Orlando Pace, Terry Glenn, and a bunch of others. He sort of got run out of Ohio but who knows? Just throwing a name in the hat. I think he is kind of old though.

Doug has my vote, but I don't know if he has even been contacted.

PPP,

So what's Donnie's take on all this? Is he excited about the quality of coaches who're throwing their hats into the ring?

PPP, share with us why Doug has your vote. What makes you think he is the best choice?

Donnie is ready to play. He has had the unique experience of working with 4 different head coaches in High School. I think that makes him ready to accept the challenge of the new coaching staff and a new offensive system.

About Doug Williams: His philosophy is to build leaders. He wants kids out there that can and will lead the team both on and off the field. His work ethic is irreproachable. Joe Gibbs once called Doug a "natural leader". And I like Joe Gibbs.

His charisma and fairly recent fame (1988 Superbowl MVP) will win future recruits over the next few years.

Problem: His emotional ties with Grambling (my opinion). I don't think he would leave a program that has only had one HC change in 54 years. It was Eddie G. Robinson that recruited him out of high school, and then later, Doug replaces Robinson as GSU's head coach.

Plus - his kids are about the same ages as mine...
