Waters will be here for the long haul. He said so in the Star Telegram interview.

Bennett will leave for a HC opportunity at a more prestigious school the minute he has some success. Especially if RC quits at A&M. Those people long for the old Wrecking Crew defense.

For that reason alone, I say hire waters.

Well, okay, there is another reason: headlines would be much better with Charlie Waters.

After the hire:
"Waters to hydrate SMU football program"

He gets Dickerson and James to be more involved with the SMU program, establishes SMU to have one of the best running offenses in the country:
"Running Waters and the Pony Express".

SMU stumbles on hard times:
"The well is dry for Waters"
"Waters, SMU parched for talent"

And finally, if SMU doesnt hire him:
"You can lead a Pony to Waters, but you can't make him drink"

Good points JasonB plus Bennett may decline us anyway knowing that RC's days at A&M may be getting short. Hope springs eternal for those ole aggies.

When Waters makes big time calls to win games and lead us to our first undefeated season in how many years?

Unfortunately, I think the real headline will read: SMU Passes Waters, Opportunity

Coach Bennett said at the press conference that he would have liked to have attended SMU, but his mother preferred A$M...and as they say, if mama ain't happy, ain't nobody happy!

With his having family in the area and already planning to bring more family in (another brother as [deleted]'t coach), perhaps he really will want to make Dallas his long term home. Let's hope he's successful enough here that he actually has the opportunity to make that decision.
