Chris SandersDoes anyone know why Quaterback Chris Sanders transfered from SMU a few years ago?
Re: Chris SandersIssues with the coaching staff.
Re: Chris SandersBecause the guy's passes looked more like wounded ducks rather than good spirals and when people realized that he stopped playing. He was really good in high school just not that good at the next level. He was way too cocky.

Re: Chris SandersI wonder if the Titans thought his passes were to wobbly. Also, you think the Falcons do as well, they picked him up last week. Mayber you should let them know Mac.
Re: Chris SandersHmmm, both Sanders and McCown... Neither lived up to their potential here... Both left and had success elsewhere... One right after the other...
Coincidences just boggle the mind, don't they? Like everybody, I'm just dying to find out who the new OC will be. "It's a couple hundred million dollars. I'm not losing sleep over it." -- David Miller
Re: Chris SandersHey Mac, that guy you were watching was the waterboy, because Sanders threw bullets.
Is your name really Mike Cavan?
Re: Chris SandersYeah, but.... Both of them were successful at the 1-aa level. Not sure what that means, but last time I looked, our opponents were Div. 1 level with corresponding defensive talent. I wish them both well in their future endeavors, but the fact remains that for what ever reason, they did not reach their potential while they were here. Coaching problems? Certainly, but not sure that was the whole story.
SMU's first president, Robert S. Hyer, selected Harvard Crimson and Yale Blue as SMU's colors to symbolize SMU's high academic standards. We are one of the few Universities to have school colors with real meaning...and we just blow them off.

The long passes were the ones that looked at times like they were trying to avoid flack. [This message has been edited by PK (edited 12-13-2001).] SMU's first president, Robert S. Re: Chris Sandersone of the reasons that some high school quarterbacks don't do well at the college level is that they cannot learn to read defenses. in high school all they had to do was throw downfield to receivers who were faster than the db's. incollege, it's a little more complicated than that.
Re: Chris SandersSawmi,
Ask yourself why the hell would the Falcons or the Titans have any interest in Sanders. You know why? So they have some dip**** who can play QB for the practice squad. Sanders was a flop. He played well at DI-AA, BIG DEAL. Who cares? I am shocked to see that an NFL team would actually pick up a guy who isn't very tall, really doesn't have that much arm strength and he definitely doesn't have the head to play at that level. Plus the guy is so cocky it is sick. They guy used to eat at my fraternity house all the time and just talk smack about how great he was. The funny thing was that come saturday he was getting his [deleted] kicked around like a tin can. The guy couldn't hit his recievers and he was always a dissapointment. I am shocked that he is with an NFL team, but there is no way in hell that he will see the field this year or years to come. Also, where did you read that he was picked up by the Falcons? I can't find that anywhere. Also, that guy was only interested in driving around campus in his chevy tahoe while he blared rap music with all his windows down. I was happy when that guy left. That being said even though I was harsh on McCown a couple weeks ago I thought that he would do a lot better than Sanders or "Snacks" as his teamates always called him. Didn't Snacks lose his starting job and basically mailed it in until he could transfer? Please someone fill me in. Whoever said that he used to throw balls at recievers feet new exactly what they were talking about. Swami, I have to ask, did you ever see him play???
Re: Chris SandersDirty Bird,
I sure as hell wasn't watching the waterboy unless Sanders took over for the waterboy. He couldn't hit the broad side of a barn with his passes let alone hit a receiver.
Re: Chris SandersNot only did I see him play I played with him. Chris is a very talented football player and you are so wrong when you talk about his head. That is probably his best trait, the kid knows football and can disect a defense like crazy. You have to remember he came to SMU, as did I, with Tom Rossley as coach. Rossley ran the run and shoot. Getting Chris in shotgun formation with 4 receivers and a back was his style, not the i formation and the run first and if it does not succeed run again offense. Chris is one of my good friends and he told me the falcons have his rights and are sending him to play in NFL Europe come February.
Did you even watch his preseason games with the Titans. The guy looked like he belonged out there.
Re: Chris SandersYou're right PK,
Sanders has yet to be successful at the IA level. Of course he was one of the last people cut from the NFL Titan's squad, and you know how hard up the Falcons are for QBs -- with only Chris Chandler and Michael Vick in the stable. Re: Chris SandersI saw a Tennessee Titans preseason game on TV, and because it was football, I stopped to watch for a while. The Tennessee QB was firing bullets (to borrow someone's phrase) and at one point tucked the ball under his arm, ran to his right, beat the defense to the edge and turned upfield for a gain of 20+ yards. Only then did I hear the announcers call his name: Chris Sanders. As in OUR Chris Sanders. He can't change the fact that he's shorter than the NFL coaches would like, but he has a cannon of an arm (who said he threw wounded ducks? Dude's throws look like SKUD missiles) and looks like he can really run. I'd guess he's lost 20-30 pounds since he left SMU. He looked sensational. Hope he kicks butt in Europe and blossoms with the Falcons, or wherever he ends up.
Re: Chris SandersPerunaPunch, I can't tell whether or not there was suppose to be a "smiley" attached with your last post. There appeared to be a bit of tongue in your cheek. The wounded duck passes may have been McCown's and not Sanders's, but the passes into the turf were definitely Sanders's. I remember well because it happened waaaaay too many times which was a real disappointment. Maybe as Swami said he was better out of the shotgun and perhaps he was rushed too often, but if I remember correctly he had a huge offensive line to protect him...perhaps too huge as he could not see over or around them.
I'm glad for him that he is getting his opportunity in the pros....that was something he wanted very badly. [This message has been edited by PK (edited 12-13-2001).] SMU's first president, Robert S.
